Smooth all the way in today. I even had a lane to myself through downtown, as ALL the cars went to one of the other three. I had to ride extra-fast so I didn't feeel like I was holding anyone up.

I have a new (used) laptop that, unlike my previous one, doesn't require an AC outlet. It will actually charge its battery and give me about two hours of work time.

So today I started looking for places to stop and write on my way to work.

The end of this pier was a little cold, but I got my 250 words done. Tomorrow... we'll see.

funrover 11-13-08 11:33 AM

Over slept, took my truck part way.. rode the rest. The weather is awsome.. wish I would have got up in time.

kgriffioen 11-13-08 12:08 PM

Not too bad this morning. Wet pavement but no rain and in the mid 40's. Might be rain for the ride home but I don't care about that as long as its not too cold. Just now the sun came out for the first time in what seems like a week!! Also by the time I got to my office my front tire was flat!! At least I know what I'll be doing after I eat my lunch.

caloso 11-13-08 03:02 PM

No ride today. My wife had an early meeting and it was up to me to get the kids to preschool. I suggested riding in but my daughter vetoed it. Thought about insisting but reconsidered. I don't want to make riding something that "daddy makes me do."

buzzman 11-13-08 10:24 PM

running late today. took to the streets for the ride in this morning. made great time. bike pathed the way home. sweet. saw maybe 3 other people on it the whole way. More geese than people on the bike path tonight.

Much fun today. I was taking my perfected straightest, flattest, least stops route home on my heavily loaded touring bike and a guy on a hot racing bike, wearing full kit kept catching up with me and passing. He would ignore me and shoot on by. After the third catch he said, "We keep passing each other." I just said "I'm just taking an optimized route home." He did not catch on that he was taking the main roads , hitting the lights, and going along two sides of a rectangle while I went straight and steady. At the fourth pass I said "I only have 300 feet of climb left to get home" and went on by.

:thumb: Sunny and warm in the Bay Area. Could not ask for more during this time of year.

Nice and quiet commute to work. Dark as usual. I wore a windbreaker but got hot halfway through my ride. The two dogs that are usually loose to chase me were not out this time. Since it's Friday, I went as fast as I could so I could get a good workout. Nothing exciting to report and I like it that way!

A balmy 47, little head wind, which was actually good as I would have gotten too over heated. Suppose to be up to 60 today and then, as is usually the case in WNY, it will be 27 and snow on Monday.

JeffS 11-14-08 07:34 AM

Thought I'd beat the rain this morning but it didn't happen. Supposed to be fairly stormy on the way home.

SouthFLpix 11-14-08 07:58 AM

It will be 2 months commuting to work on a bike tomorrow, but since tomorrow is Saturday, I'm celebrating the milestone today. As far as my commute, my legs were pretty much gone today. I had to ride in a very low gear to compensate, so I definitely am going to need this weekend off from riding to refresh. I have to take the long way home today to pick up a few things from the store, so hopefully my legs will be up for that without too much hassle.

jpdesjar 11-14-08 08:03 AM

Congrats on 2 months of commuting I hope you have many more!

The commute turned out to be pretty wet, when I rolled out of the driveway not much was falling from the sky but things started to pick up a bit so my shoes and pants got soaked but fortunatley my clothing in my bag stayed dry. I almost got right hooked but I managed to react in time to avoid a collision but I was pretty pissed off since this person was behind me and sped up to just make the turn in front of me but I shook it off since it was at the start of my ride. Never a dull moment on the bike.

Today is the first time I rode since Monday. I had to meet with my lawyer before work, but rode a partial-commute anyway. I bought wool socks, but the weather was warmer today, and I didn't need them. I got buzzed by an a***ole on the bridge.

I dunno, it wasn't a great ride, but it wasn't horrible either.

pinkrobe 11-14-08 09:54 AM

A helluva lot busier than yesterday - I had to take evasive action a couple of times to avoid getting taken out. Sigh.

huhenio 11-14-08 10:00 AM

I met up with a coworker, Simon, to commute on the roadbikes.

He clubbed me like a baby seal.

He opened a can of whoopass with a healthy dose of pain.

Strong feller ...

T-Hussy 11-14-08 10:09 AM

Snowy and fun in denver, I still have some work to do on my winter bike - gears are a pain

Brett77 11-14-08 10:27 AM

Pretty good actually, no rain (which is lucky for vancouver island in November). i have taken to downloading audio books to pass the time as I ride. It makes such a difference seeing how my ride can get pretty boring day in and day out, long and flat.

Ka_Jun 11-14-08 12:00 PM

Okay...I've been on and off this week, only twice. Last week was pretty bad, as well.

Neil_B 11-14-08 12:01 PM

There was a light drizzle as I set out. That wasn't in the forecast, of course. And my tendonitis in my left knee was acting up. My new saddle is still breaking me in. And so when three miles into my commute my front derailer broke, I turned around and spun home.

caloso 11-14-08 01:53 PM

Went to the gym last night for the first time in a long while. My legs were HEAVY this morning. But it's a beautiful day to ride a bike. I'll be off for next week and may just work from home T'giving week, so this is a good last commute for the month.

Caleab 11-14-08 02:23 PM

I'm just now finding time to post about my ride this morning.
HAHA... terribly busy this morning for some reason.
Woke up alot later than usual. Got on the road about 10 minutes later (cut corners out of eating, etc) and in my haste had no listened to the weather lady very well. Chita (the weather lady) would not have lead me astray.. so I must have not heard.
I get going and not 300 yards from the house it happens. The 35mph headwind. Thankfully, it was warm this morning. The new bike did well in the wind. Amazing how much the position really helps.
Lovin my 7.3fx!

AnalogDog 11-14-08 02:56 PM

Took my first ride to work in about 9 years. In that time, I moved away from where I used to work, lost that job, took jobs that required me to drive, then looked for a new job to ride to on the bike.

Its my second week there, and a good day for it, so I rode. Great ride, but my legs are pretty jelly-like and its a long climb at the end of the return trip home. Its 11 miles each way with a 3 mile downhill in the morning, and a 3 mile uphill in the afternoon.

Riding to work rules. I am so alive after a ride in the morning, its great.

Itsjustb 11-14-08 03:25 PM

Wimped out today. Heavy rain forecasted on and off all day (and they got it right for once). I would have ridden anyway (so I say ;)) but my wife had the day off AND my manager was out too. 3 strikes, I'm out.

Worked from home.

miedmonds 11-14-08 03:26 PM

Hillish nearest home

"...its a long climb at the end of the return trip home. Its 11 miles each way with a 3 mile downhill in the morning, and a 3 mile uphill in the afternoon."

I have the same situation, though on a slightly smaller scale. That first downhill mile and a half is great in the morning, but coming up it at the end of a long day, in the dark amid hurrying cars, is another thing altogether. Still, it certainly beats being one of the car-bound myself, or stewing on the bus.

Day off for me today, so I had to content myself with short rides for groceries and a haircut in place of the usual 45 minutes each way to work.

Wow - The only complaint I have about my 7.3FX is when the Santa Anas hit here and I feel like a sail sitting too upright... Just goes to show - no bike is perfect for everyone. Tomayto tomahto...

That said, the ride in was super nice this morning, but still too hot. The winds are picking up here and I'll be ready for some serious wind on the way home and it's supposed to get into the mid-high 80's this afternoon. But I'll still be on a bike, so I'll be smiling!

one_beatnik 11-14-08 09:56 PM

I'll admit to being a cold weather wimp, so when I heard a low of 47 and no rain until later in the day, I had to do it. Great ride. Some drizzle when I started out, but just wet roads after. My wife and son were in town today anyway so I left the bike at work and rode home with them. Given our forcast, I may be done for awhile. Like I said, I'm a cold weather weanie!

pueblonative 11-15-08 05:55 AM

It wasn't that bad yesterday in terms of the cold. I was able to stop about halfway home, pull off my coat, and ride the rest of the way in my sweat top and pants. That will probably change as the fall turns into winter but it isn't going as bad as I thought.

robinthehippie 11-15-08 09:05 AM

I had to come in to work early... 5:30am, which meant leaving at 4:15 to give myself time to warm up and drink a cup of coffee before starting. It was 20 degrees out! It wasn't as bad as I thought, I kept getting surprised by how far I'd made it since I spent the whole time focusing on keeping myself working enough to stay warm but not break a sweat. It was an absolutely beautiful morning, full moon, quiet.

My hands absolutely froze. I need to find a solution for these below-freezing days. Maybe some chemical finger-warmers, the only thing that really hurt were my thumbs, which can't be fixed by using lobster gloves or mittens. They still hurt.
