Nice jinx, tarwheel! My Monday pickup Ultimate Frisbee game got cancelled tonight (for the nth week in a row, where n is a large number) because the fields are flooded.

Personally, that would make for a GREAT ride home! Alas, the only widlife I usually see are either geese or dead. I'm glad to hear you've got the duckling eating and drinking!

I've heard a lot of theories about why people do this:

1) (My theory) They're just ***holes.
2) (My wife's theory) They don't want to have to pass you again because they're not comfortable passing cyclists.
3) (A few people on BF have floated this one, and to some extent I agree) Since cyclists so often strongly demand our rights to the road--taking the lane and such--drivers feel we should obey the law in this regard and not filter to the front.

Like I said, to some extent I agree with #3. Personally I don't filter unless either there's a bike lane or (as is the case on my alternate route) there's a screwed-up intersection where half the drivers are making left turns from the right lane (and at this intersection I usually filter in my car when I can). I don't mind people who do filter--they don't anger me nearly as much as red-light-jumpers, wrong-way cyclists, and people who jump from the road to the sidewalk and back--it's just a personal thing.

Chilly for a late May but otherwise a nice ride except for one thing. As I was riding the elevator with my bike, I noticed a faint odor. Sure enough, there was some kind of animal poop on the tires. When I got to my office, I wiped them down with a Lysol disinfecting wipes and then sprayed some orange-scented aerosol which I usually hate. I hope I got rid of the smell. I can't smell anything now and I'm too embarassed to ask my colleagues if my office stinks. I will hose the bike down tonight.

Thanks gave me a summary on catch up So much good information flows as each day passes, when I get back if it has been two or three days there is so much catching up to do. So Getting the downlow on any I may of missed is great.

On that note, my little brother on his commute was congratulated by multiple drivers for riding his 08 giant rincon as a vehicle would, including using hand signals and traveling as a car would with the wonderful benefits of cycling. He has grown alot in that sense and that is great to see, we all need to improve on things myself included, Just great to know that not every driver of a vehilcle is so disrespectful of a cycle commuter.

My theory is that they are jealous. Jealous that you are going faster than them, jealous that you can cut to the front and they are stuck there, jealous that you are out there having fun and they are stuck in a metal box, jealous that you are fitter and healthier than they are and jealous that you spend less on gas than they do.

I'm not sure they realise this; it's kind of a subconscious jealousy. But it is there.

Lovely commute today. Sunshine. Cold. Buzzed in early in light traffic. Fast and easy.

Ride home was 18 miles in the rain, 52 degrees. I wasn't really prepared for that. It was supposed to be sunny and 65. Think I'll buy some rain gear.

Today was going to be my first commute, but I wussed out. We are having an excessive heat warning through tomorrow. Yesterday it was 110*, today it was 107* and tomorrow is supposed to be just as hot. I have a 14 mile RT commute and I didn't think that today would be a good day to start. I haven't ridden more than 5 miles in one shot, yet. The heat warning ends tomorrow, and we're supposed to be back down to the 80's on Wednesday.

I'm kinda not ready anyways. I don't have my helmet, lights, spare tube, my new tires(my current ones have cracks in the sidewall), water bottles, rack, trunk bag, tools, etc yet. I'm waiting for them to arrive via Nashbar. If I had a flat or some other incident I wouldn't really be prepared.

patience, patience, patience.

I called today and was told that it shipped last Friday and that it should take 7-10 business days. So hopefully I'll have it by Friday or Saturday. I've got a three day weekend and I'd love to be able to get my bike all dialed in for the new work week so I could start fresh on Tuesday.

Rode home w/ my left foot un gripped by the Powergrip. I couldn't get my foot in properly and after a while, I stopped trying. I need to get new commuter cycling shoes asap.

nice commute today but it rained in the AM. 23 miles round trip.

Ego, plain and simple.

I had a guy driving this gigantic new Dodge truck cut me off at an intersection once. This ******* pulled right into the bike lane after looking right at me in the side view. (We made eye contact).

I stop in time, barely.

As I go to pull around him, he cackles annoyingly. I continue on my way, until a few minutes later when he passes me and throws a half-empty soda bottle at me.

I was mad, but as karma sometimes goes, a COP WAS WATCHING Not just any cop. A BIKE COP.

He pulls the guy over and proceeds to rip into him for five straight minutes. He then takes his keys, arrests him, and has his car towed. I agreed to press assault charges, and according to my attorney, the dude had to pay a nasty fine, probation, my attorney fees, and to top it off: had his license taken away.

Sometimes, there is justice in our cruel world.

Well my first 100F commute of the year was also my first 110F officially. Not so bad, however I prefer to acclimatize a bit more slowly (up until now my warmest 2008 commute has been 95F, a 15F jump in a span of a couple days)

Thursday the high is forecast to be 74F. Crazy weather.

on the way to work the weather was perfect, just a tad windy, everything went smoothly, only my 2nd time commuting and the route is great, beat my first time by about 4 mins, so I was very happy with that...only almost got killed by one semi who almost merged into my face with the back of his trailer.

The ride home was nice as well, but there was a pretty killer wind (25mph with very strong gusts) coming from the SW...exactly the direction I was going. Even with the headwind, it was fun and I think I'm hooked. For now anyway, I'm going to just be a fairweather commuter, that may change. I enjoy it so much I think I'd like it better than the car even with the rain.

Seriously, something about bike commuting tastes like freedom. I was describing it to a friend who was interested, and I was listing the pros and cons...only there really aren't any cons. I need to order some rain gear!

Nice boring commute home. Interval day so I spent part of the ride trying to kill myself in one minute spurts.

My wheels are here. Now I just need my last delivery from lickbike and I should have most of my parts for the new commuter.

The ride in was awesome. I decided that I Are Serious Commuter and This Is Serious Training, so I added an extra mile and a big hill to my commute. WHEEEEE!! I love that hill. Why have I spent so long avoiding it? I get a sense of accomplishment, and a really fast downhill! What's not to love?

The ride back...well, I had just cussed out my boss, so I had plenty of energy to burn.

I was spinning (not hammering) on the big chain ring, uphill. I was @#$%ed off, dammit, and I had energy to burn! I was going fast! And then...an X-mart MTB dropped me like a bad habit. Heh. Silly me.

One of my best rides was a few years ago in winter after an account manager managed to completely aggravate me. I was completely out of shape and rode my hybrid 30 miles from work to home in the snow. Anger is a great motivator.
I have also had negative motorist interactions that fueled speedy rides.

Made the memories of yesterday afternoon's nice, sunny, 68F with sweet helpful tailwind ride fade a bit...

I had a close call this morning. My rear tire had developed a pronounced wump-wump-wump yesterday, and today it blew out about 15 seconds AFTER I arrived at work, after riding through moderate NYC traffic.

It was a kevlar belted Primo Comet, 85 psi, with a little less than 500 miles on it; I only put it on the bike in March!

Warmer'n yesterday, but not by much. Upper 40sF. I was coming out of a dirt trail I wanted to look at, and a guy on a 'bent rode by, going my way. We exchanged greetings and I followed him. He was booking along pretty well. 20MPH or so for a while. Hard for me to push the knobbies that fast. He slowed down after a mile or two so it was easier for me.

Yesterday I rode home as fast as I could and just beat the rain. Had a screaming tailwind off Lake Champlain. Fun ride.

18 miles in light rain this morning. A pickup pulled out in front of me in a neighborhood and I barely got stopped in time thanks to wet brakes. The driver stopped after blocking my path and just looked at me without expression.

Despite the rain and bonehead driver, I still enjoyed my ride. Bicycle commuting rocks!

little chilly here in central CT. had to wear a wind stop jacket, light jogging gloves and a hat this morning. sheeze is it ever going to get warm? this time of year is such a tease.

Nice ride this morning, a little cool so I wore a light sweater and my windbreaker. Legs felt good and strong. I did witness some road rage between two cars, the one lady was just laying on the horn to the guy in front of her which was scary as they were driving near a school.

Took the day off yesterday from work so I went for a little joyride and I got blasted by wind on the way back, nothing like a little sand in the face.
Worked on my girlfriend's road bike so she will have an easier time keeping up when we ride together. The other bikes she owns are tanks.

I can't wait for it to warm up a bit more. Nice ride this morning, regardless. Did the full 24 miles from home and found my nutrition plan worked quite well. Met up with a co-worker half way and rode the rest of the way with company. Looking forward to the ride home!

My commuting routine has gotten all out of whack since BTWW. I rode every day last week except Bike to Work Day on Friday because I had an out of town meeting. Didn't ride to work Monday because I had to stay him with a sick child, but did manage to squeeze in a ride from home after my wife got home from work. However, I didn't ride to work today because the forecasters are calling for severe thunderstorms this afternoon with a tornado watch, so I decided it would be a good day to drive and restock the supplies. Forecast looks good for the rest of the week, so hopefully I will get back on my routine.

High 60s and breezy...clear sky and beautiful! Had a dog (older puppy actually) run along side of me for about 1/4 mile or so...he wasn't barking, wasn't aggressive, I talked to him, and he just seemed to want to race! A good morning.
