nice little round trip commute again today and tonight. Chain still a jumping grinding mess. BUT got home and all the new stuff was there! I'm going to go put it on now!:D
|
Rainy, but warm...52 degrees.
|
The ride to work today was existential, especially since I got my new panniers. Sometimes when I ride I just get lost in the moment.
|
completely new drive train installed last night! New chain ring, new cassette, new chain and oh does the bike ride sweet.
Snow, slush, ice today. But managed quite nicely. |
I've been sick for a week or so, so no riding. But today I was back at work.
Hot day - 21C (70F) at 8am. Took it easy as I'm still coughing. Just pootled along on the Peugeot. Nice to be riding, though. |
26F/-3C fairly clear with a nice bright moon. Seemed like the motorists were in an awful hurry this morning--a couple of SUVs drag-racing over the bridge left me very thankful that the arterial there is three lanes! That stretch of my ride can easily be the most hair-raising portion of my afternoon ride, but at 5:15-5:30 AM is usually pretty mellow...

Great commute! When the closest call is with an attractive pedestrian in the Metro parking lot, things are just going to be alright. New jacket tested out today, a North Face Apex bought massively on sale. It's as good as advertised for wind-stopping, and medium weight. Got a little warm today, so will remove layer for the ride home.
MikeinDC, yeah, it was busy on the roads today! What bridge is that you refer to? Sounds scary; glad you are okay. |

So long as you don't mind rubbing elbows with traffic that can get up to 50mph or more, it's not really that bad--though it does have its moments... :D |
Tough week ahead weatherwise. Today was supposed to be the warmest day of the week, and it was about 32F riding to work with high in the upper 40s. Some cold fronts during the week are supposed to bring the coldest weather of winter so far -- low teens -- and probably colder than any we had last year as well. Oh well, it felt riding in to work this morning and moon was still huge in the sky.
|
11F with light wind making it 2F. I get .5mi from home and realize my wallet and keys are still at work. Little piggys were pretty cold by the time I got home but I but I did ~13mi instead of 4.5mi. I think a fresh pair of socks would have been helpful.
|
Ah, so this is what 4 weeks off my bike feels like. It feels like dragging a boat through mud. Still, felt good to ride.
|
commute
It is still dark at 5:30 in the morning. The temp was about 21 upon leaving. No wind, and a pleasant
ride. Well, at least until I got to the bike rack, pulled my lef foot out of the clipless pedal as always, slowed down, but my bike started to lean to the right, because of a heavy panier on the back, and I couldn't get my right foot out in time, so I went down. I must have looked like a fish bucking in the parking lot. I recovered and was able to get out of the clipless pedal, while laying on my side. |
Lots of snow in Denver, good to see some fellow bikers on the South Platte trail this morning. Nice peacefull ride for the most part.
|
Cold (10F) plus an unexpected pretty snowfall. Managed to squeeze by some traffic. Good ride overall.
|
~48F, somewhere between muggy and clammy
|
Haven't been able to commute yet this year, or for a while in fact, but my new lights come this week, then it is back on the road! It has been below freezing for a while here, but I went for a good ride on Sat and survived. The main concern that I have is the condition of the sides of the road, as we really do not have bike paths per se. We'll see later this week though.
|
First commute of the new year for me... now I know what commuting in 24F feels like. It really wasn't too bad!
|
As long as you have a decent covering on your head, no, it's not the worst.
|
I could not have been more comfortable with temps in the mid 20's. :)

Heavy snow is the best kind of riding. No one on the trails, cars driving slow, and cutting through fresh snow like it twas butter. |

Yes it was...you didn't happen to be the guy on a Kona with goggles headed into Downtown about 10AM did ya? Nice ride in for me too. A lot of First Tracks for most of my ride... I-25/Broadway to Wadsworth/Quincy for the locals.... |

Don’t be angry with me because your wife had to bring you to work because you don’t roll on snow. Arent you the one that works in bike advocacy and I work in construction? Wouldn’t it be beneficial in your line of work to trade your hummer for something more fuel efficient?

Nice, 50(F)ish. Rode along with a guy from my favorite LBS for about a mile so we chatted. Traffic was lighter than usual for most of the ride, oddly enough. The lights were not on my side, though.

Mid-teens and snow on the side roads. It made my day.
|
None today or this week for that matter. I'm in mandated training for new supervisors. Even though it's right next to the American River Bike Trail, no bike commute. There's no place to lock up the bike, no place to clean up. Meh.

Ride in was uneventful, 35F, a little foggy.
The ride home was mostly fantastic. 74F and fast. I did the 15k in less than 40 minutes for the first time. I dropped 5 people: a 10 year old, his dad with a trailer, 2 homeless people and someone over 70 (ok maybe over 80). And I passed them like they were standing still. Hmm, now that I think of it the 10 year old was standing still. So I dropped 4 people. Then the dark side. At my second most dangerous intersection I almost got run over by a guy doing a "California stop"* at the intersection. He was a teenager in an Acura (WTF?) and he looked really guilty when I stared at him. Fortunately he saw me at the very last second. *Most people in California believe that the right turn law means something like this: "Slow down to 20 mph or so and cruise right on thru as long as a big truck isn't coming your way. Most valuable/smallest vehicles lose all ties." (I was clearly winning on the least valuable car rule, but on size I was toast). |
Rode in the dark both ways yesterday as I had to work late. The result of that was my headlight started going dim on the way to work this morning because I had run it longer than usual. Duh ... My commute started out nice because I saw another bike commuter on my route for the first time in months. I caught up with him just as I had to turn left and he went straight, but I rang my bell and surprised him. His tail-lights were really bright and I had wanted to tell him that, but perhaps I'll get a chance some other day.
Anyway, writing this reminds me that I need to change the batteries on my light for the ride home, so I better go do that before I forget. Later dudes. |
