This morning was so incredibly gorgeous--blue skies, calm, cool, perfect. I was committed to wave to as many fellow cyclists as I could and to allow myself to be drafted or passed by the fredliest of Freds.

And then I stopped at a bakery in Midtown and picked up a coffee cake for the office. If you want to get smiles and thumbs-ups from motorists, carry a pink box on your bike.

Worked from home today, but it was such a gorgeous day that I took a leisurely lunch hour and rode to the bank & the grocery store & the (far away) coffee store. Haven't accomplished much work-wise today, but at least I got outside for a while!

I'd say that most, if not all shops around here wouldn't install anything for unintended or unsafe purposes. I think the catch here is that it sounded like he was looking to install the stem himself. That takes the liability out the shop's hands.

Commute home = hot, hot, and windy hot. 2.5 Litres of water on the way home today. I used part of the American Tobacco Trail this afternoon and found out: 1> Yes, there is plenty of shade. 2> With the tree coverage on either side, the ATT can become a wind tunnel .... a HEAD-WIND tunnel. Ugh!

Rain. I abandoned my bike at my office :(
Hopefully the weather forecast is wrong and I can bike it home tomorrow...

Humid, headwind, hangover.

So when I left the house this morning I shoved a granola bar in my pocket for breakfast. After about 10 minutes when I heard something fall. It was the granola bar which I left in my unzipped pocket. While I was turning around to get it a car came around the corner and crushed my poor granola bar. Tasty.

Granola bar hit and run! I hope you got his number...

Ordinary ride in today. had an embvarassing incident being unable to get clipped in on a hill start (I've been making a point of leading with my other leg, both to improve my unclipping on the 'other' side, and because I had a few twinges in my 'leading' knee). Kind of struggled a few times with traffic was queued up behind me before pulling over to the side whilst simultaneously kind of half falling / half getting off my bike.

I of couse made a big show of seemingly adjusting something on my pedal / drive train, in case anyone was watching...

That said, my cleats are shot. I've been meaning to get some replacements for weeks. Perhaps that's the problem. No, I'm kidding myself. It was just a dorky moment.

Oh man, the storms coming look like the nastiest I've had to deal with yet. I'm ready to go, but if they don't hurry up and pass within the hour, I'll be driving.

swapping between night and day shifts. I have had a whole stinking 2 hours of sleep since 11am yesterday. ARGGH!

anyway, the ride will perk me up for a couple of hours then I'll have to keep moving or risk snoring where I stand!

Don't know how you people who steer desks keep from passing out every stinkin' day....

Upper 50s, overcast, damp, and a headwind from the depths of_ Uh_ Well it was a bad headwind. :p Airport says 11MPH but I ride next to Lake Champlain and the weather station in the water is reporting 20MPH. At one point I got shoved from 17-18MPH down to about 12. :o Tailwind for the ride home this afternoon, but lighter.

I caught a couple riding side-by side. Dinged the bell. Said hi. Passed. No other cyclists spotted.

My Continental Traffic tires are saving me more than 30 minutes per week. Surprising, considering what the tread looks like. I did some light dirt riding and they seemed fine. Grippy and stable. I like 'em.

Another wet ride, I didn't wear the cape today because last time I put it on it gave me a hard time, the wind would blow it around and it was flapping around leaving my back exposed. Today I just threw on a thin jacket and enjoyed the rain as much as possible. I stopped about halfway at this great bagel place to get some breakfast and everyone was giving me wierd looks, I think, I could have been paranoid or something. Whatever
Sorry to hear about your poor granola bar, that is tragic.
Tensioned the chain last night and it seemed to be perfect this morning, every stroke of the pedal seemed to really count.

96 F and humid for the ride home yesterday!
77 F this morning - this is as high as our highs were until recently - and a forecast of 99 F this afternoon.

wussed out this morning - I am tired, dog tired. last night when I was working i was barely keeping myself awake and i think my ride home was the slowest, most lethargic ride I have ever done! Maybe the 9 mo old I have that is waking up 3 times a night is affecting me...just maybe ;)

i guess it is a good thing i skipped out this morning - going camping with my son today and tomorrow and I will need my energy with this crazy heat here in NC!

Those cars seem to have amazing aim. I lost a pair of sunglasses (from my shirt pocket) and a bike bell this way. I stop, turn around, and... CRUNCH!

It was raining yesterday, so I left my bike here at work :(
But its clear today so I should have a nice (HOT!) ride home.

Nice breezy somewhat cool commute. Took the short 10 mile version due to a 120 mile ride tomorrow.
Fugly green paisley jersey guy blew by me again. This time on a curve. I really hate being passed on a curve.
Anyhow, I hope to survive tomorrow's agony.

still can't get over how great the weather has been. mid 60's in the morning rising to about 80 in the afternoon. blissful actually.

this morning's ride was aggressive for some reason. can't put my finger on it, but everything seemed to have a slightly negative vibe to it. cars, pedestrians, other cyclists all seemed to conspire to make my commute difficult. oh well, must be getting cranky since its been a long week.

Saw grey clouds hovering this morning while i was getting on the bike - figured I could get to work before the sky opened up. Boy, was I wrong.

5 miles into my commute the rain fell down, lightning crashed, the sky cracked open.

I took cover under an awning off someone's house. They eventually came out and started conversation. Told him I was trying to save a buck/get some exercise. He said 'that leaves more gas for me'. Just smiled at him and told him my girlfriend is on her way to pick me up. I'd be out of the way soon enough.

The cars kept whizzing by, throwing water in every direction.

Of course when my girlfriend arrived - the rain practically was all but done.

Figures.

Hot, humid, sticky commute. Glad to be back on the rig after yesterday's break. Saw four other commuters going both ways. Forecast is for some serious heat/humidity on the way home.

I typically commute 4 out of 5 days a week. Since my ride is only about a mile and a half each way and mostly on bike trails, it's totally painless. Today was especially lovely. Warm, but with a nice breeze and no traffic to speak of. One of those days that makes you feel increcibly happy to be alive and not cooped up in a rolling metal box.

Extremely hot in NC today with the high temperature expected to reach near 100F. It was already 77F when I rode to work at 5:45 am. This is crazy hot, the kind of weather you expect in August rather than early June, and will be the earliest we ever hit 100 if it reaches the century mark. I'm heading home at noon to help my wife with some stuff, and it's already 91F at 11:30 am. Will probably drive back to work after lunch to avoid having to bike commute home in the extreme heat. At least I saved one roundtrip to work today.

the dry air needs to come back soon...i miss it
