Put a boot in there to keep the innertube from bulging out so you can keep riding, then get a new tire.

I haven't posted here in awhile.

I started commuting on a regular basis when my car was in the shop after a minor fender bender. Decided to keep on commuting throughout the fall and into winter. Everything was going good until it started to rain in the SF Bay area on a regular basis. I ended up not bike commuting for the latter half of Feb and most of March. Started up again Thurs. & Fri. of last week 'cause I think I need to get in some miles to prepare for some upcoming races.

I rode to work this morning hoping I'd get lucky and the rain would hold off for the evening commute. Ended up wimping out and getting my wife to pick me and bike up at the office. Tomorrow's supposed to be rainy but the outlook's better for the latter part of the week.

I've been out for a week on spring break so today was my first commute back. great weather... 59 degrees in the afternoon with light winds... I took a slightly faster alternate route in that I haven't taken in a long time, following the shoulder/bike lane of University Boulevard, one of the major arterials in town and a 45MPH road (50-60MPH avg. traffic speed)... probably won't do that route too much. but the road wasn't busy at all when I was on it today (I went in in the afternoon before rush hour since my night class was tonight) so the ride in was pleasant, fast, and hassle-free (until I got to the bike rack and realized that the keys to one of my locks had fallen apart... doh! oh well, it was one of four locks that I use normally, so it was cool)

the commute back was at night since I had my night class today. I also went back to my regular route. it was colder than it had been before, kinda made me with I had brought my jacket. but it wasn't too bad. the ride back was also fast, fun, and hassle-free.

Nice ride in, sun coming up as I got to work. Ride home was pouring rain. I'm getting to like riding in the rain. Now if I could only get my coworkers to realize I don't need a lift home just because it's raining.:D

Good!!

Nice ride. Not too cold. I kept wondering what the commute would have been like with the Bent I recently test rode. Sure enjoyed it!

Samuikon 03-28-06 01:02 AM

It went quite well. The weather was not unbearable. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt - I love this kind of weather, even when it's colder - except my hands freeze very quickly.

Oh, and a driver was actually curteous and let me cross before he made his turn. I just find it surprising because a lot of drivers are jerks. Especially the ones that use high beams when they don't need to. Also, the area near Cedar Hill Cemetary was fairly clear. Usually it's busy at this time tonight. ( see map ) It's an accident waiting to happen. I might get photos of it up for people to see.

There are other places where I nearly get killed trying to cross (I'm a wuss, I use the sidewalk most of the time) that I will photograph as well.

Took the fixie and was glad I had a brake on it when a cab right hooked me and I couldn't slow down enough to avoid it. I actually had to tell myself to hit the brake instead of just grabbing it out of instinct like I do on my mtb. Traffic also sucked big time which slowed me down a bit, but I got to work less sweaty than usual.

I had yesterday off so this is my first commute of the week, however I did manage to squeeze in a short 15mi ride yesterday :D. Safe but fast ride, I took the Lemond today because it has the cyclocomputer and I have no clue how long my after work ride is. More and more above freezing commuters and XMAS bike newbs are on the road now so I'll need to watch out for them. The bike room at work was nearly full last week so I'll have to make a point to get to work extra early.

Another regular ride to work this morning. Left late but it doesn't matter since I can't really be late for work. Last night on the way home I had a car buzz by me within a foot or two going at least 45-50mph. Kind of scary since that doesn't happen much to me and I wasn't really expecting it. Wished I would have caught the car at the next light but they got a green and I got a red so that wasn't going to happen. Cloudy for the ride home with a chance of some sprinkles but nothing major. 70s tomorrow :)

Visiting here for the first time in some time. Getting everything together to start commuting again next week. SteveE, hope all is well!

I've got 3 words today describing my commute: slow as hell!!!
I moved just days ago and my new commute is longer (9-10 miles) and has more climbing

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6431/route24cp.png

Took me longer to get to work than I thought but on the flip side, in a few weeks I'll be in better shape than before

caloso 03-28-06 04:29 PM

Got absolutely soaked on the way home last night and I wasn't really appropriately dressed. Oh, and I'd taken the fenders off the bike to wash it and never got around to putting them back on. It was raining like a firehose. But I didn't crash, I didn't catch pneumonia, and half-way home I actually started to enjoy the insanity.

caloso 03-28-06 04:37 PM

Peregrine:

400 or so feet in just over a mile? That's a pretty good hill for a commute. No kidding that you'll be in pretty good shape in a few weeks. Impressive.

Zin 03-28-06 04:48 PM

Nice morning ride in this am. Temps were in the high 30s and little to no wind.
Getting ready to ride home now and the temp is 56F!

I'm digg'n this weather! :D

NM-NewRoadie 03-28-06 05:18 PM

I was off Monday, so no commute, but I did 20 miles in the afternoon, just cuz :-) Then Monday night, my wife just HAD to watch some movie, so we didn't get to bed untill midnight. In spite of my cycling passion, and desire for more and more commute miles, I'm still a lousy morning person. If I don't get at LEAST 7 hours, you can FORGET getting me out of bed. So, I didn't commute today either. But tomorrow I'm doing 40 miles, come hell or high water :-)

pinkrobe 03-28-06 08:34 PM

Spring is almost here! At least until it snows again. I don't care. I can almost ride without mittens, and I've gone two days without a balaclava. It feels so nice to have the wind whistling past my ears... :)

jyossarian 03-28-06 08:47 PM

Warm enough to wear just the spring jacket (brown corduroy) and actually take my time instead of rushing all over the place. I even took a pic of my bike (will post in the pics of commuter thread) cuz it was still light out even though the sun went and hid behind some clouds. The ride home was fast at some points and leisurely at others and I was happy for running a front brake on the fixie when I had to ride down a short, steep downhill that ended at a red light.

buzzman 03-28-06 11:33 PM

back to the commute again. feel totally out of it but the rides were faster due to not riding with studs. Great weather.

jeff-o 03-29-06 06:50 AM

About -1 to 0 celcius today, on my second ride to work of 2006... The first week or two are what I call the "atrophy rides," because I'm trying to work off the muscle atrophy from being off the bike for 4 months...

Gah, has it been that long? :(

FormerBMX'er 03-29-06 07:57 AM

Pleasant ride today! bright and cool, no wind, little traffic and I got stuck behind some chick in jeans with a firm trunk . She kept looking over her shoulder for me to pass, but I was quite comfy where I was. Had to yell "Headz-Up" to some greasy guy getting out of his gas guzzler while still fishing for something inside, oh well...I'm safe.
