Good ride this morning, fairly humid but I was up early so it didn't bother me much. |
Rain! Ordinarily I wouldn't mind it so much, but I'm planning a cross country flight (student pilot) and this weather is just killing my plans, day after day.
On the upside, I can have a few beers later. :D Now hitting "Submit" and crossing my fingers! ;) |
The commute home yesterday was wet, as expected. No matter, I thought ahead and wore a soccer jersey, which dried in about 5 minutes. Not so dry were my cotton shorts! Oh well.
A decent enough ride this morning, cool enough that I didn't sweat much. I'm worried about my right-hand disc brake though, the lever seems to be sticking. I'm not sure if it's the spring inside the brake caliper, or maybe the cable is rubbing on something. Hmmm, I'll check it out this weekend, I guess. |

Son and I will be riding the canals of Amsterdam before Sunday services in the red light district. They have a World Cup Special where, for 50 Euros, the prostitutes wont use their hands.:D |

Only saw one other commuter this morning. :( Summer camp for kids is back at Emory U. I think I followed (and eventually passed) 6 golf carts as I went thru the campus this morning. Get out of the way you slow $&$#. :crash: Finally got to wear my Lake sandals. Thanks for the suggestion Map tester. Very comfortable --- and cool on the feet. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoti.../happy/143.gif Can't wait to see how they do on the ride home. |
Rode in with my wife this morning. She's pretty fast, but she needs to work on her acceleration a bit. No trouble with cagers on the way in, despite some fairly aggressive riding in traffic.
|
The ride in was good. Overcast and cool. Two cagers squeezed in to the curb on me, so that I had to slow very quickly. I made it by though.
Had a good time listening to one of my newly added podcasts Pod Save The Queen. |
Big time day on the bike yesterday: rode to work, rode from work to the bakery to pick up a cake for the office June birthday party, rode out to a tri workout (a brick, ugh), rode home. So yesterday was the gamut: commuter, errand runner, athlete, commuter.
Needless to say, my legs were a bit wooden this morning. So, I rode in on the old bomber nice and slow. That was nice. |
good ride in the morning. left late but I was tired this morning so I decided to take it a little easy. until I got to PB Drive then went back to hammering. checked my mirror and saw a line of like 10 cars behind me so I decided to pull off at the next parking lot out of courtesy. good ride in.
rode to my parents house on the ride back. about 3 miles from campus. the ride there was great. the streets in my old neighborhood are still as rough and bumpy as ever. overall a good ride all around today though. the weather has been great this week. 70's and 80's with mostly light wind. |
The commute today was fun. But I sa something awesome when I turned the corner to get my bike. Parked at the next pole, was 2 high end Trek Mtbs. Full suspension. Weird seeing a High end trek at a high school. When they saw my Suteki they must of been Woah! A road bike! With clips! Sweet! Dude! I know it was something like that, because my bike was not touched. If they didnt like it, it wouldof been messed with. Its a code for highschool. But I dont follow it.

Good ride both ways. Pulled over for a fire truck, then hand signaled an onconming car to pull the heck over. Got a wave from one of the firemen that noticed it. These people don't even let emergency vehicles through...sigh. Stopped at a house down the street to check out a tadpole trike. They sure look fun.

Interesting, I thought, to be thanking ppl for doing what they're supposed to be doing  |
almost pasted
Well, I wasn't commuting to work but was riding home from the local vegetable stand and I'm very much to the right of the white line on a 2-lane road that has a posted limit of 35mph. I ride this road frequently and have never had an issue until yesterday. The paved section of the shoulder is about 30 inches wide and the dirt portion is about 5 feet then there's a nice, deep ditch with a lot of blackberries (Mother Nature's version of concertina wire).
I have this uncanny sense that something bad is about to happen, then hear the jake brake of this truck barreling down from behind. One evasive move and I'm onto the rough gravel about 3 inches from the fender of a septic pumping truck. I was so busy trying to stay upright and out of the way I couldn't see the name of the company but I will definitely remember the truck. Next time I see it, the owner's going to get a call after I get the number off the side. Anyway, the only damage was an unfixable pinch flat from a rock I ran over hard, an increased adrenaline flow for a while then this urge to absolutely throttle someone. Suffice it to say it was a foul commute from the veggie stand and it would have been a crappy way to go but in the end I'm still able to find some humor in the situation and climb back on the saddle so it coulda been a lot worse. Too bad I didn't get a name or phone number though. I contemplated a call to Johnny Law but there are so many white septic trucks on the road it would have been a crap shoot to get the correct one to file a complaint against and I can wait...I'll see the truck again someday. It's a small world around here. |

glad your "cycle-six-sence" kicked in time, you missed the "your sh## is our gold" truck, and that you were able to write this posting!
try to keep composure when you see the truck again, sounds like you're on the right path! |
Today was a different commute. Early Saturday so very light traffic. Had to teach an Effective Cycling (Bike Ed) class. I'm proud to say two BF members (and fellow bike commuters) were in the class and passed with flying colors. Great job.

Too much wind. Far too much wind. This was the first time I've ever taken a break on 10 mile trip. That wind...
|
Good ride both ways. The wind was blowing on the way home; resistance training!;) Sent My uniform pants in to be taken in due to lost weight commuting.:) This commute thing is so good!
|
Today was Sunday, so I was just riding around the typical urban bike trails around town, just aimlessly cruising the city. It was great. Probably rode about 20 miles. (for some of you, 20 miles is nothing, but it was a nice little work out for me. Just a nice little ride to kill time, farting around.

18 C at 7 am, summer has come to the island!
Hard ride out this morning, still recovering from Friday's decadence at the Nordals musikfestival. A few lousy bands but the atmosphere was cozy as usual. (sorry about the double posting on Thursday) |
High 50Fs and overcast. I saw some squirrels, a bright red cardinal (brighter than normal), and a bunny rabbit. :) Caught up to a commuter.
This happened locally on Saturday, but I wasn't involved. Even if I'd wanted to, it was too #(@*%$ cold! Naked Bike Ride |

First ride to work after a 2 week vacation. Made it in just under 10 mins. and was passed by a group of mtn bikers out for a joy ride. While I enjoyed the rush, the ride was too short. |
It is rainy today and I am tired and whiney! It is going to be 75 and rainy today. I love the Pac NW. Bleh. Anyway, commute was good dispite all that cause I was on my bike.
|
I had to work both weekend days: Saturday I rode the roadie so I could take a nice long ride afterwards; Sunday I rode the fixie for fun; today I rode the bomber just because.
Today was cool and breezy. Since I'd worked over the weekend I gave myself permission not to kill myself to get in the office strictly on time and I took a slightly differenct route than I normally do. |
Its good to be back
Finally after a week of the bike being in the shop and another week of weather, my first full ride in this morning. So I have a new rear cassette, a new chain, and a new middle chainring. So basically, I have almost a new drivetrain. I think my average speed this morning was about 2 mph faster than its been.
