Nice.
I finally had the nerve to try riding my dad's old Peugeot U-08 to work. It's getting light at 6am now, and the temp felt like mid-30's, so I thought today seemed like as good a day as I could hope for, if I had to make some kind of repair next to the road. The chain fell off, but that was easy to re-thread and note to play with the limiter screws. This old bike is about 10lbs heavier than my usual commuter, so I was leery of that, too. But for all the gaspipe and steel fenders, it rides like a dream. I'm glad I fixed it up. |
Had a nice ride in this morning. Temps in the lower 40s with the sun well in the sky by the time I got on my bike. A little breezy but nothing too bad. Had a person right hook me into their workplace. I almost pulled in to tell them what they did but I just kept going.

Great ride today, finally hauled myself out of bed early enough (almost) to make my 20 mile ride. I left about 15 minutes later than I wanted to, and the WHOLE ride felt sluggish and slow, but the ride time on the computer showed 1 hour 26 minutes when I pulled up to the building. That's pretty standard for that ride, even when it feels fast. I ended up about 20 minutes late for work, but no one yelled at me. If i'ld left on time it would have been 5 so :-)
Really glad I got up sort of early enough, and then bit the bullet and did it, much better views on this ride than my normal one. And as i'm riding more, i find it takes me 10 miles or so to really warm up and start spinning well. I'm doing the 20 mile route back too, so hopefully the weather won't be to bad :-) winds are expected, but from the south...so should be a tail wind :-) |
Beautiful ride this morning, despite one cager trying to hit me. Weather this time of year is tough to dress for properly. 40 or so this morning, 68 this afternoon. Shorts only in the morning and be really chilly, or tights and sweat like a pig on the way home? Dilemma. :)

Nice ride today. Light traffic, good temperature, all around nice.
|
A little chilly this morning, but still pretty good. I was feeling all fast and stuff, until I turned onto a side street and slowed to a crawl for no good reason. As soon as I got back into traffic, I was flying again. Weird.

It was nice this morning, bright sunny with a nice blue sky. It took about ten minutes to get to the office.
Yesterday was a very rainy day and I didn't ride the bike in. |
It was 45 F, overcast with a few light showers and a 15-20 mph west wind. No issues with cagers but then I did go in early so most of them were still sitting in bed.

Ride in and home Monday was great both ways, except for the flat rear. Picked up a nice, rusty wire nail somewhere - penetrated the Armadillo and the tire liner. And the toob. Leaking slow enough that I didn't notice it till I was almost all the way in, so easy fix in the office. Cranks/BB started creaking pretty bad on the way in - they had been popping for a few days, but I forgot to look into that last week while I wasn't riding.
So last night, researched a bit then removed the crank bolts, greased, and put them back in. Perfect. While I was getting my hands dirty, gave the chain a once over with a bit of lube - amazing the difference! Ride in today was awesome -first day in my new HHCMF shirt. Didn't really need the headlight with that thing on :) Got a bit wet - forecast was for "isolated T-storms" - didn't hit anything major on the way in; just enough to cool me down a bit. Never did get my fenders, so hoping that I can dodge the "Few T-storms" that are forecast for later this afternoon. I love the weather.com "hour-by-hour" forecast. Except when it tells me I'll have a 20MPH headwind half my trip home. Which is what it says right now... |
Now that I'm home and can log on, I'll tell you about the ride to work and home.
This morning was foggy and about 48F (9C). I had to turn on the blinkies so cars could see me. Had to go out at lunch. That was tough. Sunny, ~72F (22C). I hated going back to work. :crash: The ride home was awesome. I left work early (3:00 PM). Sunny, warm, no wind, no weird drivers. Everything a cyclist could want. After yesterday (cold and rainy) maybe spring is FINALLY here. :) |
Not really rain. Just sort of spitting as I came into downtown. I ran into one of the superivising attorneys who was locking up his bike. I have to remember to pat myself on the back for encouraging him to turn his old Chicago Schwinn Varsity into a commuter. He looks great and arrives at work with a smile on his face. And so do I....

very fun! first long ride on my new thinner slicks. so much better! temps in the 70s and a fairly strong headwind...I had a great time! about 35 minutes each way... my legs are getting stronger. I love riding!:)
|

Beautiful day for a ride. So I get to work on my fixie, find out my laptop crapped out bet. yesterday and today and ended up riding home and grabbing my car to drive to NJ to see the IT guys. What a waste of a beautiful day. Only got 4 miles of riding in. :(

I put on new tires last night and it seems this always makes the next time out more fun. My old tires failed unexpectedly and I didn't have time to really shop for replacements. My LBS recommended a brand I had not heard of previously, Serfas. I wanted 25's but they only had 23's. Turns out the 23's are slightly bigger than my old 25's. They rode great and have a reflective sidewall. The reflective sidewall will be a plus because after the time change next weekend, I will be riding to work in the dark. Today it rained on the way in, but the afternoon turned out nice and sunny. The blooming trees and flowers around town are great this time of year. I feel sorry for the people sealed in cars missing all this.

I'm back on the bike, I'm back on the bike, thank God almighty I'm back on the bike!
Oh, it feels so good to be riding with a t-shirt on and slick tires. No more studs and triple layers. And what is that orange/yellow globe that hangs in the west as I ride home and makes it so I don't need to turn my lights on? |
The ride to work & home was ok, I need to do a little work on by bike tonite. Have a good nite .
|
I'll let you know after I get to work, but looks like it's going to be another "10".
|
Overdressed this morning and was really sweating by the time I got to work. It was in the mid 40s but I warmed up fast because of the sun. Not too much traffic out the past couple of days which has been nice and I even took the route on the major roads today. Should in the 70s and sunny for the ride home.
|
Nice ride today, some seriously wobbly newbs out there though. Jeans, big gears and Penny Loafers :D.
|
Slow commute this morning. Very tired.
When I arrived home yesterday I hit 100 miles in 2 days. That would be about 30-40 more than I am used to in that same time period. Anyhow, I'm very low on energy. Going to finish my oatmeal and head over to the deli in the next building over and purchase a nice big sausage and egg breakfast burrito. yummy |
1st commute of the season
1st time posting on Bike forums, first commute of the season. It's great to be back on the bike. Morning ride started at 5:30 AM, temp around 34 degrees. Supposed to be high 60's - low 70's by afternoon with a slight tailwind.
It's great to be back in the saddle. |
No ride today - allergies kicked in in a big way last night and cost me half a night's sleep and half my vision...
Ride home last night was very nice, headwind and flat rear notwithstanding. How is that I can commute for 2 months with no flats, and then flat the rear (different tubes) 2 days in a row? I don't get it. Anyway, noticed it was flat as I pulled away from a stoplight, conveniently next to a little appliance shop which parking lot provided some shelter from traffic as I changed tubes. |
Temperatures around 0 this morning, I still need a hat to keep my head and ears warm. On the way home it'll be 14C so I have to stow the hat, pull up the sleeves of my jacket, and sweat all the way home.
The rides are getting easier each day, but I'm still huffing and puffing and only just breaking 20km/h average. Oh well, I'll be up to speed in a week or two. |
