washing your feet?

Not strictly a bike commuter question but sort of related with the discussions about what to do when you get to work and are sweaty.

Do you wash your feet when you take a shower (at home or wherever)? Someone told me that they don't wash their legs or feet saying that it's unnecessary because when you wash your upper body the soapy water flows down and cleans your legs and feet.

Please take my survey and tell us what you do:

I wash my feet every time I shower/bathe. That is how I was taught, and it doesn't really take that much more time to do.

I get really sweaty feet so I want to take the extra steps to ensure that my feet aren't rank!

@lostarchitect do you think it's a silly question because it's unnecessary to wash your feet or because it is necessary to wash your feet? Right now the poll results are about 50/50 for feet washers and non feet washers. 2 don't wash their legs or feet, 5 only wash their legs, 6 wash their legs and feet.

Why wouldn't you wash your legs and feet? Letting soapy water run over them is not the same as washing.

You can tell the non-washers at the gym, they have those nasty yellow fungus toenails.

Of course one should wash one's feet when showering. Why is this even a question? Dry really well between one's toe's and upon arrival at work change socks and add medicated talcum powder. Gold Bond or some generic brand.

My rule of thumb is 'never ride in one's work clothes or work in one's ride clothes'. When changing into work clothes I recommend adding a little deo and powder one's behind and you'll be good for the day. Keep a full compliment of toiletries, toothe paste/brush and towels and you'll never be caught short.

I agree and if you're a feet washer that conclusion may seem self evident, but given that so far 50% respondents are not feet washers, it's not self evident to everyone.

My analogy is that it's like saying that you only need to brush the teeth on your upper jaw; the ones on your lower jaw are sitting in toothpaste foam while you're brushing your upper teeth so why bother brushing your lower jaw's teeth?

Well, I'm not going to hit the survey link because I don't trust it, but if the results I hear are true, then 50% of you are disgusting.

Hey there LumpyNose!

The soapy water also flows down the crack of your butt!

Do you not wash your butt?

Greatest thread ever!

There's a reason why your feet are the furthest away from your nose... and your butt is behind you!

Using popular modern criteria for reasonable thinking, it probably depends on whether or not you can see your feet.

Actually... I often wonder about this sometimes (Although to be honest, I am also interested in the Higgs Boson and a few other arcane topics.)

When I shower, I do wash my feet, but I never wash the bottoms of my feet. Reason is, if I get them soaped up, I might slip and hurt myself. I've never noticed the bottoms of my feet being particularly dirty however. Once in a while I do take a bath and then apply soap.

Now I suspect I won't be able to sleep tonight.

I left the computer at home when we took a small Christmas vacation this past weekend. I was curious to see what I missed on BF while I was gone.

Now I know.

The real question here is.....Do you dry the rest of your body before you dry your butt and privates or is the facial tan really not from the sun?

Sorry couldn't resist that question .......... hehehe

The poll results so far are more encouraging (to me at least, as a feet washer); 27 responses, 3 (11%) don't wash their legs or feet, 1 only washes their feet and not their legs, 8 (29%) wash their legs but not their feet, and 15 (55%) wash their legs and feet.

On a historical note, this is how I found out about this practice (of not washing ones feet). I was at KMart with my brother and was concerned that I needed to get a new bath mat (I had been using a porch mat, which while extremely odd looking, is quite practical as a bath mat). He asked why I needed a bath mat and I explained that I didn't want to slip and fall when showering because the soap made the bottoms of my feet slippery. He then explained to me how washing ones legs and feet was unnecessary (as mandated by his wife).
