Reading about everyone's problems with winds and gusts, I can honestly say that in all the years I've been living in Athens, this has been the windiest year I can remember, by far!

njschmidt 03-09-12 09:38 AM

Cool (50*F) and moderate amount of rain, but I was perfectly comfortable under my Ultrex Human Powered Machines Rain Cape :). I decided not to even mess with the fenders this morning, as my commute is so short and I can avoid puddles (~1 mile commute). With the way the Giant Defy 3's frame is made, it seems like the frame actually acts as a fender as long as I'm turning by leaning instead of with the handlebar. Overall pleasant ride :).

40F and gray, back to normal. Expecting rain for the pm and foreseeable future, *really* back to normal.

Indeed. Just went for a walk/lunch and it was c-c-cold. Ride home will be fun.

The automated forecast for this morning was 90% humidity and 100% chance of precipitation but any more I disregard predictions and just go. It turned out to be a pretty nice ride, cool, light breeze no rain. I'm expecting patches of sunshine this afternoon.

kfkcam 03-09-12 01:06 PM

Did my first commute of the year yesterday. Chilly in the morning in the upper 30's but no wind. The ride home was beautiful, 50's but a bit of a headwind. Granted all in all couldn't ask for much more.

dscheidt 03-09-12 11:35 PM

Great! So good I did it twice. (I forgot my phone on my desk, and had to go back and get it.)

dygituljunky 03-10-12 05:41 AM

I had a flat just before leaving the house. Manufacturing defect in the tube and not enough time to change the tire and still commute by bike. Called a family member for a lift. My wife noticed that the bike ride really does wake me up.

Home all week with flu... the kind that makes you weak and sweaty and makes your body hurt like you fell off of a bike... Missed a few sunny, gorgeous days with temps above 70F! I hope to be back on a bike early next week.

Beastb15 03-10-12 09:20 AM

Did my first commute ever this morning.

Start: 6:15 am
Distance: 16.03 Miles
Time: 1:20:42
Average Speed: 11.91 MPH
Max Speed: 32.42 MPH
Calories: 1185

All in all I feel good. Hope I have the legs to get back this afternoon.

Home sick 4.5 days (S-thur came home early on Thur) and still not 100% the 1.5 so drove. Sucks because most of the week was really nice weather and I need the miles trying to get in shape for The Georgia Rides To the Capital event. Crew I ride with it ends up being a 53 mile round trip. I not sure I am going to have it in me after this week. It took a lot out of me and ended up packing on a few pounds :(

njschmidt 03-10-12 12:17 PM

Beautiful weather (60*F), clear blue skies, flowers starting to blossom... Couldn't ask for a better commute. One of those days that I just have to slow down to try and take it all in.

Well, how did the trip home go? Keep up the good work, keep commuting!

bluegoatwoods 03-10-12 08:25 PM

A fine commute today. Morning the temp was in the mid-30s F. So I had to wear my light winter get-up.

Coming home at just about sundown the temp was in the mid-50s. Normal cotton slacks and low top workshoes were fine. A cotton jacket with sleeves pushed up was just a bit warm. A sweatshirt would have been just right.

There was a headwind, fairly stiff. But it didn't seem to affect me as much as it would have on other days. I was at just about my top strength and I could feel it both morning and evening.

Now I'm on my weekend until Wednesday. But I'm sure to do some recreational riding as well as the commute when the workweek starts because the forecast is glorious (almost) weather for the next ten days and counting.

Today I commuted for the first time to work. Wasn't too bad. I have 6.5 mile round trip to work and back. Its mostly downhill on the way and uphill on the return. So that actually works out perfect. It took me 14 minutes to get there and 18min. coming home. All in all I am excited to continue commuting and hopefully shed a few pounds.
Oh and today was about mid 50s and a headwind on the down hill and a tail wind on the up hill.

fletchh 03-12-12 04:33 AM

A nice ride in at 36f (2C). Back to eastern atlantic time, so it will be dark again for another month. A couple bikes in the dark this morning, so I must have been a bit earlier, as I don't see either too often, although at least one is a new rider. It will be shorts for most of the week as the afternoons are all in the 70sF (lower 20s C).

Telly 03-12-12 04:41 AM

Unfortunately the weather failed me again and will be cold(ish) and gloomy with showers and rain all through Thursday.
This morning's commute was with a overcast sky and temperatures in the high single digits (Celsius); this compared to a sunny 19 degrees Celsius on Friday!

dcb23 03-12-12 05:10 AM

I expected it to be much cooler this am but it felt quite nice. I switched out my full cover shoes for old running shoes, wore shorts and a short sleeve under my zip. Spring is springing.

Oh...and picth black again.

essiemyra 03-12-12 05:32 AM

Well it is my first ride ever in the dark. I left the house at six am and the weather was a nice 37 degrees. I had purchased a light for the handlebars that had 220lumens. The road I ride has street lights for most of the ride. The light is to see the road. By the time I got to work the sky was getting lighter. The weather was fine not to cold, no winds to speak of. So I guess all in all a great first ride in the dark.

vtjim 03-12-12 05:58 AM

30F/-1C with the sun just trying to come up, no wind. It warmed up early here in Vermont. Then again, it never got very cold, either.

I also remember 3 or 4 years ago when we got about 2 feet of snow on St. Patrick's day, so maybe I shouldn't put away my winter clothing just yet. ;)

hyhuu 03-12-12 06:30 AM

Warm and dark (again). Starting to see more commuters. It's supposed to be very warm later this afternoon.

Wheels2Lab 03-12-12 07:26 AM

50F, slight wind and drizzle. 7 miles to the train station, then on the train, not a lot of people due to the bad weather. It was awesome. Rain stopped, then 3 miles to the train station to work.

tarwheel 03-12-12 07:36 AM

Not a bad commute considering the time change. Getting up at 5 am is tough enough as is without having to deal with daylight savings time. I got up on time but was soon running late after making the mistake of starting to read the sports pages in the newspaper, with all the NCAA basketball news today. Made good time riding to work despite riding 90 miles over the weekend, but caught a bunch of long red lights. Needed my headlight for the entire commute, which was a big change from last week, when my morning commute was nearly all daylight.

Steely Dan 03-12-12 08:01 AM

i took my studs off over the weekend and put the slicks back on.

15-20mph tailwind. 55 degrees.

i was having so much fun flying along the lakeshore that i barely noticed the off and on drizzle all the way in to work.
