Great commute, although this week got a bit too hot. This is my 3rd week commuting by bike from Old Town Alexandria, VA to Foggy Bottom in Washington, DC: Commonwealth St to Four Mile Run to Mount Vernon Trail, across George Mason Bridge and either Ohio Drive to Lincoln Memorial and north from there, or around the Jefferson Memorial, around the Washington Memorial, and and up 17th by the White House. This is probably the best commute I ever had!

E.S. 06-22-12 09:30 PM

I worked a later shift today so riding in was nice and warm, fairly calm considering there was supposed to be a 50% chance of thunderstorms. I also took a different route that is 15 miles and made it in 45 minutes (personal best on a commute!) I was really tired afterwards so pedaled real slow (11-13 mph) on my way back and then met up with some friends and took a 7 mile fun ride. The raid held out nicely until I was very close to home. Great day!

Hot, hot, and super hot..Hover around 95, yesterday it was 100..I had on tank top. Nevertheless, a good ride..;)

It was a good ride in, a little slow, probably from too much UEFA this weekend, and that carried into the MSL last evening. It rained about 2am, but nice coming in for me at 70f (21c). More rain to come, but it is all scattered, so it will be a hit or miss day.

Another wonderful morning, talked to another commuter.

acidfast7 06-25-12 05:37 AM

good. actually kinda cold today.

went in late (9am) and saw a huge amount of suit commuters today :D

had a silent bike today which was very nice :D

vtjim 06-25-12 05:50 AM

63F/17C & overcast, no wind. It started raining about two-thirds of the way in. Luckily I packed my jacket in a pannier so I stopped and put it on.

Monday. Blech.

Another great ride in. Legs felt good after a day off. Rode my road bike today - I just love how nimble and snappy it feels! Took a slightly longer route to get in an extra hill. I passed a strong-looking rider on a cross bike at the bottom of the hill, and was hoping he would give chase, but he didn't. Passed a few more not-so-strong looking riders on the way up (it's a pretty tough little hill).

At the top, I suddenly saw myself from a few years ago...a young man, sitting on the ground next to his bike, panting, obviously having over-exerted himself on the way up the hill. I asked if he was okay, and he said "Yes", so I continued on. I still remember those days when even small hills were a big deal, and more than once I collapsed at the top, heart racing and hyperventilating.

no motor? 06-25-12 08:47 AM

It was almost fall like with the cooling breeze and a temporary relief from last weeks heat.

New season, new route. My 7.5 yr old's summer camp is at the local high school so she and I rode the 1.5 miles there (out of my way) at her pace and then I rode the 8.5 miles to work at my pace. Pretty nice. pm care for her camp is at a grade school adjacent to the HS so I will pick her up there then we will walk back to the HS bike rack for her bike.

Sadly the store halfway between camp and home that sold honeysticks has relocated to somewhere else entirely. There is a convenience store much closer to home but they mostly sell popsicles, so that's a time consuming reward when we are much closer to home (and much closer to dinner time). Definitely not a daily kind of thing.

Nice ride home. Took off early, work sucks, riding my bike dont.

E.S. 06-25-12 03:18 PM

Chance of thunderstorms but I second guessed the forecast with luck once more. Calm ride in and made it to town early. On the ride back I sure fought wind though. For the second time I saw another cyclist going the other direction. He wears a team kit and a full beard. I'll have to meet him and chat someday. I accidentally left my bike bottle at work so I was definitely parched when I got home. Good day.

BikinPotter 06-25-12 03:33 PM

Shaved a few minutes off my a.m. commute. Good tires & my legs are getting stronger. Looks like it might be wet for the trip home. Got a fender installed this weekend, so I'm ready.

b_young 06-25-12 04:22 PM

107F was the high, no rain or relief in sight. It amazes me that you only feel the heat when you stop. I do make an effort to drink a lot more water. Oh well such is life in the south.

alexaschwanden 06-25-12 04:22 PM

It was a sunny 70F and very windy in both directions.

acidfast7 06-26-12 02:07 AM

excellent!

the sun is out and the biergartens are open for the way home :D

fletchh 06-26-12 04:31 AM

A bit chilly on the downhills at 58f (14c). But just wait, thursday will be back up to the 90sf (lower30sC). A nice ride in, and traffic is still light, and 3 weeks on, the road I use for a short cut is still closed for resurfacing. Hopefully, they replace that red light trip, as I can never get that light tripped to get across 4 lanes.

vtjim 06-26-12 05:49 AM

Soaking wet! 55F/13C with steady rain.

My rain shell leaked! My legs, that is. So, now it looks like I've wet myself. :D And there's a wet spot on my left pocket, too. This has never happened before, and I've ridden longer, through heavier rain. I'll have to investigate. The shell isn't exactly high quality but I don't see any wear spots or holes in it, either.

Other than all that, the ride was lovely. :)

groovestew 06-26-12 09:42 AM

Cool but sunny, bit of a tailwind for the ride in. Fast guy ahead of me on the MUT looked like he was taunting me by sitting up and riding no-handed as I was trying to reel him in.

Yesterday, the weather forecast was for sun all day, so I rode my road bike. Naturally, it rained on the way home. Today, the forecast is for rain this afternoon, so I rode my all-weather (fendered) bike. No doubt it will be sunshine and roses for the trip home.

More Cowbell 06-26-12 10:20 AM

Rode my Ciocc in today as my Trek needs some fender work. Almost piled into a lady that pulled out of her driveway without looking. I was also turning left at a stoplight and committed to the left turn when I thought the oncoming driver was turning left as well (as he veered that way). Totally my fault.

b_young 06-26-12 10:49 AM

Hottttttt

Lisl 06-26-12 08:18 PM

Encountered my first inconsiderate driver, today... funny enough he had two lanes to himself and still passed not even half a yard from me.

Other than that it was great... freezing, though, first you ride in the upper 70s and next thing you know it's in the lower 50s. BRRRR... should've packed a jacket.

curbtender 06-26-12 09:35 PM

Great weather both ways. Caught a few honks from my fellow workers. Jealous bastards, Ha...

Satchmo 06-26-12 10:39 PM

Awesome ride home at the start. First tail wind in weeks and missed all the rain squalls.

However, I ended it by having the bike slip out for under me going around a corner and shredding my left side. Curse pine needles and rain. Taking a few days off til the swelling in my hip goes down.

On a happier note I just hit rolled over 1k miles for the year.

Ira B 06-26-12 11:19 PM

Outstanding.
A total bucolic overload.

BikinPotter 06-27-12 12:36 AM

Great going in, but kind of scary going out. I had a sculpture class tonight, due north, which required riding along the waterfront. What a &%&% mess. Traffic was awful. &%&* SUV's. Then I still had to ride home after class. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ride the scooter on class nights. Oh well.

bored117 06-27-12 12:54 AM

Zipping alone on bike lane going 20mph... having a blast and... someone on new Hyundai swerves into bike lane slows down (looked like to me making right turn)... throws some trashes through moon roof... almost hit the curve and than speed up to get back to car lane. Took me a little while to register the trashes were for me I suppose. Since I was going at decent clip, had plenty of chances to memorize the license plate but the car didn't have one... yet.
Suppose there will be first time for just about anything... getting punched from side, chided by someone who doesn't know traffic law, etc.

fletchh 06-27-12 04:34 AM

A good ride in at 62f (17C). Pleasant weather, but it will turn hot tomorrow and will stay that way on Friday. That will make a large variance in the temps for the week.

essiemyra 06-27-12 05:28 AM

I have not ridden to work since last Wednesday, it was good getting back to biking. Anyway a very light rain on my way in this am. The roads barely got wet. Other than that it was a quiet ride in. Hopefully there will be no pop-up showers on my way home, which they are predicting. Time will tell.

making 06-27-12 05:30 AM

A bit chilly this AM, and it is suppose to be over 100 Friday. Anyway, I am off friday. I plan to lay by the pool or sit in the house. It is good being me.
