Well ouch, going back from work I fell due to the roadworks and cars parken on the bike/pedestrian crossing. I first had to to left, right to pass a car then a small ramp and sharp left in a narrow section for both pedestrians and hikes (its really stupid they did it like that), it was stoney so my hands and elbow got a lot of grazes(? Not sure about the word) and lots of blood, but I went in to the close by gasstation and got things to clean it up. A bit of pain in my thigh too (still there) but got going again.

Very humid! It was like riding in a dog's breath the whole way, but I am absolutely loving it. I am now able to bike commute most days, and it has been fantastic.
Nice ride in here in the DC area. Dropped off rent check this morning, which earns me wan extra couple miles in the saddle as well as riding on parts of the trail where I don't ride nearly as often. Add in a bit of a tailwind and the fact it's Friday, and I was in heaven! |
First week of bike commuting to the train station. 13 miles each way. My car died last week and I really enjoyed the riding. Got a chance to dust off the fixie as it was sitting in my garage for the last year.

nice ride this morning. first morning commute with my new-to-me Haro. also bought hand grip mounted mirror. it is a schwinn product that slips on the end of you bar and lashed on with a velcro strap which makes it easy for me to remove and rempunt it as needed.
looking back at the week I see a steady loss of mileage as my overtime and lack of sleep started taking their toll. sooo tired. was glad to read that i wasnt the only mammal noter and that the humidty wasnt killing jist me. deer love em. humidity hated it! |

I can breathe now on the morning commute - I changed my tires and so now I can relax. I traded an old bike to my LBS for a new flat bar "fitness" bike (Giant Escape 2), but I don't trust the stock tires. I bought a pair of Continental SportCONTACT at Nashbar and put them on and I feel a lot better. Flat tires are easy to repair, but I just prefer to not have them in the first place.

While not my work commute I do regulary goto football (soccer, sigh) games. Today was the first time I biked there after when I lived much closer, and I am happy that even as I exercise less now I took the upphill bridge much better now.

monday morning first leg on the haro princeton public library to west windsor/ princeton junction. 3.6 miles was slow taking 17 minutes. everything is damp drizzle of the lightest kind. my tail blink was acting up. ptherwise an uneventful ride. taking the bike on the train today because i didnt have time to pick up an innertube for the second leg edison/metropark to rahway side of my commute. nj transit can be a real pain in the ass so i hope i have no prpblems. the humidity serms to be getting worse as i sit here waiting for the first train. the 3:59. still very tired.

Hello,
I wanted you to know that I just completed the following workout: Workout: Bike Ride Date: August 06, 2012 Distance: 3.61 mi Duration: 0:17:42 To view '3.61 mi Road Cycling in Princeton on Aug 6, 2012 3:39 AM', follow the link below: http://mapmyride.com/view_workout?w=162165169 You can also view my profile and add me as a Friend here: http://mapmyride.com/user_profile?u=12504030 I sent this from iMapMyRIDE+. available in the iTunes app store! Thanks, Serec -M.R. Serecka above is the message generated by mapmyride app. the second cycling half of commute was a bit disturbing as i saw what was clearly someone's dog as auto victim. short curly hair yappie dog. i bet the driver is either clueless or crying. keep rethinking the whole vegan thing. |
A good ride in and it is warm and humid at 77f (25c). Maybe storms later, like friday. I pulled up for the lightening and thunder, then when I thought it passed, I got going again, only for a downpour to occur. I just put on my lights and plowed through it.

Humidity! I was soaked by the time I rolled in...but I caught up to my colleague again.

Probably the nicest morning of the year so far. Roads were dry but most had not had significant rain for a long time. There were actually little sand bars crossing the bike lane, washout from the rain I guess. Just a nice ride to work.

Got to work and realized it's time to replace the rear tire. Got about 3.5k miles out of a Specialized Armadillo on rough roads and about 3 flats in that time. The front is still good.

Nice sun, big side wind. cool.
|
A little cooler this morning. Only 75 (though 90% humidity). I started using panniers and lost about .5 miles per hour. I cannot tell if it is because I am carrying more or riding differently.

60F and gray, should top out below 80F today.

Pretty nice morning. Caught the trail end of a train shower a couple miles from work, but I was in and out of tree cover and overpasses, so it was like there was an on-off switch somewhere. Rain on. Rain off. Wet pavement. Dry pavement. Alternating every couple seconds. Little warm and muggy, but since the end of summer is approaching, I'm used to it now. Would have seemed downright intolerable a couple months ago.

"train shower a couple miles from work, "
ekw in dc thats a cool expression that i have not heard before! |
There's a hill in Morningside Heights that, as a newbie, I have avoided for the past few months.
Had to change my route this morning because I needed to run an errand and I accidentally took it. It was not nearly as bad as I always thought it would be. |
Today felt no good on the ride to work, I felt like it was real slow. It might be I overslept this morning and was stressed out (still bikes are faster than buss(es) or walking), I also had a thicker sweater on due to the rain yesterday (when I was going home yesterday it was like beeing in the shower...) so I was a bit more sweaty. And finaly the last uphill climb to work was much harder then usal, I figured out that it was the first time I meet headwinds in that climb.
Always nice to clear opposition and to not give up. |
I've been without my bike for 5 days now because the back wheel went out of true. It's a nightmare, I'm so depressed; haven't gone out once this weekend. Hopefully the new parts arrive soon so I can complete my upgrade to my bike.

Back from vacation. 60F/16C this morning, and sunny. A nice ride.
|
Oh yea, I had another very nice ride in today.

I have literally thrown in the towel on bike commuting until we get a break in the weather we are having -- waves and waves of thunderstorms, day after day. The humidity has been incredible here the past few weeks, with frequent afternoon storms that I have managed to dodge most days. But I am tired of the stress of hounding the radar, looking for breaks in storms, and dodging lightning and hail. In hindsight, I actually could have made it to work and back yesterday without getting caught but it was a relief not having to worry about it. Torrential rains eventually arrived after I got home, but there is no way to predict when, where and how bad they will be on a given day. I don't mind getting wet, and the humidity is so high you will get wet regardless of the rain, but have no desire to ride 30 miles on busy streets in torrential downpours. If that makes me a wimp, so be it.

If it aint fun, dont do it.

sun, cool temperature, nice tailwind, great ride

Cool and easy this morning. The deer seemed restless, a doe walking her newborn across the path and a hundred yards down two spotted fawns crossing. I slowed down and pretended not to see them, which seems to reassure them, but I think the guy behind me scattered them into the woods.
