It was about 102 when I left. Had a moderate headwind yesterday to work, but all downhill. So good and bad. Had a horrible day of work. Some people didn't show, so I had double to do. Wind died before works end. The ride home was a godsend. Even with a headache, I did good time and I tackled 2 difficult hills in a higher gear than usual. I really enjoyed that ride home.

First bike commute since June 20 due to vacation and weather. Summer arrived in full force during the interim, and it was hot and muggy this morning with temps in mid-70s F. I was drenched in sweat by the time I got to work, which is usual around here in summer. Will probably take it easy on the return leg as temps are supposed with reach upper 90s with a heat index well over 100.

I went into work as usual today. It's the busy time of year at my workplace and most other people are working. It's an archaeological consulting company and it's field season. I'm support staff (GIS mapping) and folks have projects they are working on today that they need my help on. I'm going to take my holiday time off at a later date, probably in August when the USA Pro Cycling Challenge race is going on and I camp out on Independence Pass to see the race.

It was very nice that there was little traffic on my commute route this morning.

This was my second day (and 2nd straight day) sporting a new rack and pannier combo. Yesterday there was a bit of an adjustment to the increased weight on the back of the bike. There was also an unsettling rattling noise, which I later figured and confirmed was my u-lock bouncing around in the pannier. I wasn't sure yesterday how I felt about the new set up, but today it felt far more comfortable. I also made sure to back the u-lock securely so it didn't rattle in the bag.

The ride back was hot and there was smoke from forest fires blowing a haze over the city. Also with it being the 4th of July, the streets were oddly empty and even quiet. All and all with the smokey haze the ride had a bit of a surreal quality.

A very warm and muggy morning at 79f (26c). The bad air quality has already started, and I hate these days. It was good ride in with a new seat to break in.

It was steamy coming in this morning. Someone refrenced rattling U locks...drives me nuts. I'm buying a second lock to leave at work so I don't have to put mine in my back rack.

Another hot, steamy day here with high forecasted in the low 100s F. The high temp has topped 100 here 5 out of the past 6 days, and is forecasted to stay that hot through this weekend. I didn't bike commute Monday because the forecasters were predicting 100+ temps and severe thunderstorms, but it turned out to be the coolest (94 F) and driest day of the past week. Tuesday they forecasted a high in the mid to upper 90s and it reached 101 during the hour of my afternoon commute. After that, I decided to ignore the forecasts. I'll just get my fast rides in during the morning commutes and take it easy in the afternoons.

Got to ride my new (new to me) Miyata 914 road bike for the first time last night!
Could not have been a nicer commute.
Temps were just right (about 62 f ), only a lite breeze and not a cloud in the sky but I did have to dodge a few kids in the street lighting off fireworks.
Set a new best time of 49 min!

Sunny, light tailwind, fast (but not as fast as I was hoping). Suicidal squirrels are coming out of the woodwork. Haven't hit one yet...

It is a sweet riding machine.
Was a bit skeptical of the Bio Pace chain rings but they are actually pretty nice.

I'm taking today and tomorrow off from work so don't have a commute. I did get out my Rocky Mountain and rode it up in the logging roads for a while, exploring a new route to the Black Rock Mountain Bike area. I have new WTB Nano tires on the Rocky Mountain. They are much nicer on the loose steep gravel than the Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tours that I had when all I did was commute on that bike. I know, apples and oranges.

Beautiful weather here. I'm almost looking forward to going back to work again next week just to enjoy my commute. Almost.

Was hot today. didn't notice till I stopped moving. then everything was covered in sweat but quick!
I was riding by the nursery(trees) on Alexander Road when a poor squirrel ran into my rim.
Poor little guy. luckily he hit and shot back and around passing between my wheels as I lifted my feet off the pedals in concern. He seemed fine. in other words nothing crunched. phew! also been trying the mapmyride app for my phone with mixed results. (waves at everyone madly) . . . .

Great commute except for the Moose that decided he did not want me taking his picture and gave chase. Talk about a near heartattack! !! He chased me about hundred yards then stopped. This is the moose here I saw a motorist in the area snapped a pic and submitted it to the local news right after my encounter.

Hit 2 smashed 40 oz beer bottles in the bike lane, slashed my front tire from bead to bead. Tried to boot it w/ a dollar bill and all I got was an additional blowout for my patched tube. Called my wife, we were 10 min late getting our 7 yr old from post-camp-camp, argh.

Took the long way home tonight to get some miles in at tempo. Rode into the wind for a bit, passed the Thursday night River Ride going in the opposite direction, waved to some teammates, hit the Freeport Bridge and then turned back toward Sacramento with a sweet tailwind.
