Unforgiving national road route to work

Hello there!

I'm one of the unfortunate cyclists who has to cycle on an extremely hostile and ugly national road full of aggressive anxious drivers. I hate it because I feel the death machines whizzing like missiles as they pass by me. There is an alternative road but it's very narrow and I have to be even more cautious there.

Do you have similar routes? How do you deal with it?

Any local bike clubs/ commuting organizations that might be helpful? Is a national road a hiway? What are the speed limits?

You're in Greece? Would propose that there would be local cycling clubs/advocacy groups that may be better aquainted w/your roadways and terrain. The problem of rude/aggressive drivers is pretty much universal. My commute is pretty mild by most standards and yet I deal w/impatience every day. If the alternative road is narrow w/less traffic I would take it instead of the busy 'national' road. Just my opinion based on the info you've given.

The speed limit is 80 km/h I think, and the road is a highway, yes. There are quite a few bike clubs but I dont think they will be of any help as they mostly do recreational rides in the country or just racing. Commuting is not usual in my city.

nashcommguy, yes in Greece. Yes, now that I'm thinking about it, the other road seems more reasonable. It has more hills too
