At least you are getting good advice.

Have you tried this after a ride?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Experienced the same problem this past spring/summer. It was overcome by wearing a different pair of cycling shorts everyday. The practice continued into fall/winter. In addition I use medicated powder on me and antiseptic spray on the shorts as soon as I would remove them. I think that part's important. Gradually, the condition went away. It's now part of my regular commuting routine. Like topping off my tires.

It's been said but I'll reiterate:

Check your soaps- both your detergent and what you're washing with when you shower.

Rinse off well after showering.

Dry off well after showering.

Funny but the fact that you're so diligently washing the shorts and showering makes me suspect a soap allergy or reaction.

Make sure your shorts are clean.
Consider using a chamois cream while riding. I use it on any rides over 20 miles.
Air out the boys. Use powder if needed. I use witch hazel and then gold bond.
Go easy on the manscaping.
Crap. I hadn't thought of that. I used to have a similar issue, that I never did figure out the cause. It went away, but I rarely ride in "bike clothes" anymore....

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

I'm kinda puzzled by the prevalence of this problem. I have never encountered it, and I just wear street clothes when I ride, whether commuting (20 miles/day) or recreational centuries (at least once a month) or whatever. Those of you who have this problem... are you using a padded seat, or a hard leather saddle?

I have a pretty persistent fungal issue. It doesn't seem to really matter how clean I keep things (clothing and myself) - I have to do a round of antifungal cream treatment about twice a year. Before I finally gave up and went to the doctor I must have had it over half my body, basically anywhere where sweat accumulated - under arms, feet, calves under socks, crotch, even in my sideburn area under a bit of hair and my helmet strap.

A few days of antifungal every 12 hours clears it all up. Sometimes I wish I could buy the stuff by the pint though.

When I've got it, it itches so bad that I almost can't stop before tearing the skin right off.

this stuff has been amazing for me... one of my very good friends told me it helps him from nights he is behind the drumkit for an hour and a half at a show... I started using it when I started running, and was still pretty heavy, and had that chaffing issue.... I apply it before I get dressed in the morning, and have some in my locker at work for my after shower...
