360-degree LED/flasher to mount on pole

Hi All, I'm having trouble finding a LED that emits 360 degrees and can mount on a pole. I'm hoping that someone here may be able to point me towards one.

I want to replace the orange bike flag (on a flexible pole) with a flasher. The use is on the trail-a-bike I pull with my son on it. Because he sits so low on the bike, I want something up higher for visibility (and I don't think the flags are all that useful). The streets we ride on have bends with parked cars that sometimes hide us from cars approaching from behind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What about mounting a flasher pointing up? My superflash has a pretty good amount of side and bottom light thrown off as well. I'm not sure how rigid those flag poles are, don't know if the light would be too heavy.

Google 'Lightman LED' or 'Lightman xenon strobe'. May have to get creative when mounting to the pole, though...

I don't have any suggestions on a flasher for you, but will suggest that you check your local regs as a a 360 degree flasher may not be legal.

School bus comes to mind! Granted, these lights might be a bit large for a bicycle.

I know I should not post this, but the first thing that came to mind was this:

Good up to 40 miles.

Should be ok as long as the flasher is yellow.

Bikes: everywhere

If you're handy with wiring, there are these. I'm guessing 12v though, which means 8 batteries in stock config.

Looks like I got the amber link, but they come in red also:

OK you won't find LEDs to do what you want... LEDs are a point source of light that through a lens is diffused for whatever use we have. 360 lights use mirrors that diffuse the light that way, and the mirror is part of the housing.

What I used to do back in the day when I commuted at night on lonely roads was use a man overboard strobe on a pole.

You can find such a strobe at your local marine store. Or order it from the URL below:

https://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=50501

Here is what such a device looks like:

It is highly likely that the use of this device on public roads is illegal. But I understand your needs and you can discuss it with a judge if it comes down to it.

BTW put an amber film or paint on this, and it may be legal.

Hey here is a URL for a yellow one...

Helped solve a similar problem for a friend a while back with the following:

Check out item #10, which is a 18" flashing foam tube, quite visible even during the day, and should be funky enough for any kid to like, also costs a couple of dollars!

https://www.gotparty.com/lightbracelet1.htm

Edit: Also quite easy to shorten or modify from what I remember!

If you find a single-D-cell version of the strobe, designed to attach to a life jacket with a large safety pin on the side of the case, a bit of hunting should find a replacement amber dome for it. The amber dome is intended to somewhat reduce the damage to the user's own night vision while maintaining long-distance conspicuity. But it would also have the advantage of being legal for vehicular-warning use. I used one of these for commuting in the fog many years ago.

If you don't need the battery life of a D-cell, there's also the single-AA-cell "Aqua Strobe" rated at 8 hours life. I don't know if they sell an amber dome for it.

I was thinking kayak strobe light. Here's one from REI with clear, red and amber lenses:

https://www.rei.com/product/800897/co...y-light-strobe

It says it runs 10 hours on 4 AAA's. (You could also use rechargable AAA's, which is nice)
The flash rate is 60 times/min, which is slower than most bike blinkies, but once per second should still be fine to to keep you visible in traffic.
Great idea BTW, I may buy one for a future kid trailer rig myself!

Perhaps Fibre Flare Light on a stiffer pole? They even have a micro flare light.

My suggestion is an ordinary flashlight of your choice with an orange traffic cone accessory, like the Fenix:
https://www.fenix-store.com/product_...oducts_id=1773
Obtain flashlight with desired flash rate (which may be the hard part), attach cone, secure light vertically to flag.
