Homemade reused fender
2 water bottles- topped, bottomed, and halved, overlapped and taped together with electrical tape then zipped to my frame. Roads were dry when I road to work and wet when I road back to the hotel. I have a wire rack on the back with a trunk. I zip tied a tupperware lid (the kind that people buy lunch meat in) to the underside to keep my bag dry. Bottles and tupperware were pulled from the recycling bin and work graciously and unknowingly donated the zip ties and tape.

Cool...great ideal! I didn't like fenders and this is something I can do quickly if it's raining for the ride to work or from work. You are running 27" steel rims on a SS. I have a late Raleigh Sprite that I'm planning on a SS, but wasn't sure if I should upgrade to alunimum wheels. Nice bike how does she brake? My bicycle is down to the frame and I'm will start to build it shortly.
Thanks and Enjoy!

I like it.
I have nothing against buying something for the bike, fenders for instance. I've done it plenty of times myself.
But to think, "I want it" and then make it yourself; now that's the independent spirit that we commuters cherish.
Good job!

In the right lane
I'd imagine you'll still get plastered with rain though. Your down tube might not.. but you will. I'd try to get those bottles closer to the action.

frog- She brakes terribly, the pads could definitely be fresher though. I have an extra set of 700c aluminums that I want to play around with. See if the brakes reach and get new pads.
gerv- Could have made it wider at the top and maybe curve it for better coverage. Besides keeping the bike cleaner, it seemed to keep spray from splashing off of the down tube and onto my pants/shoes. It raining anymore and I only have to go about 2.5 miles. I had been riding a '72 Raleigh Sports with full fenders before this. Both are a blast to ride.
tarwheel is right- Bianchi Piaggio, not sure what year yet, SN 3C901759. Mid-80's, Japanese tubing I think? I picked it up last weekend and so far I love it, fits me really well, lots of fun. Will be a nice end of winter project for sure. Thanks for the compliments.

Can't see the rear brake, but the front should reach a 700c rim no problem. You only need about 4mm more reach to convert from 27" to 700c.

Here is my usual set up:
ottawa_adam- if you want to talk about Fred take a look at my rack stays. The rack was a "gift" and I'm pretty sure the stays are from the gifter's garage. Also note the tube strap around the pump and the multitude (4) of small cheap lights. If you were able to look even closer you would see that my brake cables are switched and the levers are both rights, one is flipped upside down.
cycleheimer- I ordered a crud cutter from chainlove I think for my gf's bike a while ago. I use XLC fenders ordered from aawyeah.com- $10 for the set and they are easily removed.
hydrate- that's nice too, whatever it takes to keep a rooster tail off your back
