finally finished my from-scratch commuter build
It has taken a few months, but I'm finally finished with my from-scratch commuter build. I ride 26-28 miles round trip daily on a combination of flat suburban roads and the pothole-lined streets of downtown Boston. I need an all-weather bike I can take on public transportation during rush hour if necessary, but something that can make good time given the distance. Here are the specs:
* Xootr Swift folding frame
* 20" wheels with hand-built wheels using Sun Rhyno Lite rims
* Sturmey-Archer drum brake in front for wet; V-brakes with Travel Agents in back
* Big Apple tires for soaking up minor bumps, slide back in rear dropout to make room
* Thudbuster seat post for handling major bumps
* Specialized Romin saddle
* Xootr CrossRack and bag
* drop bars with STI levers, mirror or bell mounted on each
* Shimano Capreo hub+cassette for higher gearing
* "campus" pedals - platform on one side, SPD on the other
* MagicShine lights front and back
* SuperFlash light on bag
* AirZound for those pesky drivers
* Planet Bike fenders
* no quick-release skewers
my favorite part is that the only thing on the bike neither silver nor black is the name of the bike in yellow. I painted the koolstop salmon brake shoes to match :-)

Looks like a well-planned build! Hope it works out for you.
