I do ride on the weekends on occasion and I have a weekly group ride on Wednesday nights. I wouldn't mind doing weekend rides on a regular basis but the weekends tend to fill up with other stuff.

It's OK. I get a fair amount of time in on the bike and I want to be careful not to shortchange other aspects of my life.

Yes that's when I get "real" rides in instead of the short commutes. BUT, I need to take a day off every one or two weeks and it's usually a weekend day.

As my bicycle is my only option, that is my motivation. Otherwise I could call a cab, but the $15-$20 that would cost me is almost motivation to WALK the 5 miles.

Gas Price is all I need. with a 33.2 mile commute I save $70 a week by taking the bike, or $280 a month.

Before I got my ebike 5 weeks ago I hadn't biked in 4 years. So far I have put 100 miles on it per week - with almost 400 of those commuting miles. I've used my car a few times, to take care of some stuff 50 miles away, and to go on a date.

Up front I knew I'd have a hard time regularly commuting by bike unless biking was as easy as driving - which goal I've /nearly/ managed, ignoring all other factors. Add the fuel savings, health benefits, and time savings of biking, and it's not hard for me to make that decision.

I got an ebike specifically to
1. counter those days when I just didn't feel like biking
2. allow me to arrive fresh but in good time if I want

Biking has turned out to be faster than any other transportation option when commuting to (10 min) or from (5 min) school, which is a nice plus. It is slower by about 5 minutes to bike to work (6 miles), though. I usually do a triangle from home to work to school, so that gives me a 10 minute savings in total transportation time - assuming no pleasant detours, which I'm finding myself doing.

Next step: usa a car cover, thus protecting its value and reducing my desire to drive even further...

My motivation for riding is the knowledge that for every time I ride, I'm doing something proactive to stay healthy. In addition to the cost savings, time savings, and general feeling of wellness, I enjoy getting out in the fresh air and getting my blood circulating on the ride in to work. I ride in on average 4 days a week, and its never really been a chore.

Over the last 6-8 months, it's been more a matter or NOT WANTING TO GET OFF the bike at work! LOVE the ride, HATE the destination.
That is gold.

Bikes: a lot... mostly vintage, one vintage made of plastic, er carbon

My commute is pretty short (~5-6 miles one way, but there is an 800 foot climb for three of those miles). Motivations are plentiful. The $865/yr parking permit is a big motivator. I love cars and driving, but there isn't much fun in driving such a short commute. The amazing view of the entire Monterey Bay I get to enjoy every evening just before I begin to plummet down the aforementioned morning climb is priceless. The weight that is a constant struggle to keep off after loosing 80 pounds is a huge motivator. We just had a very mild winter, but rainy days on end, and early darkness in winter does dampen my enthusiasm over winter, but it is spring now!

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

I never feel worse after the ride than I did before.

That means I'd have to feel truly awful before starting if I'm going to feel merely "bad" when I'm done.

I always want to ride. I've missed 5 days since August, and I wished I rode each of those days. My commutes only 3 miles and mostly pleasant. Maybe that makes it easier to stay motivated. When I don't ride, I need to bum a ride from my wife. She's more ok with that than I am.

Before I bought a car again my other option was taking the bus for which I absolutely despised having to take. I don't make a lot and have a lot of bills to pay so saving a few dollars a day by not taking the bus would help me out a great deal. Plus I would arrive to work 5 minutes faster than if I had taken the bus.

I like riding my bike, but I also like driving my car. If I am not running late and it is fairly decent outside I will usually take the bike.

I see a lot of people that like the longer commutes, but I think your distance is perfect. Faster than a car, but not so far that you get tired out. Just simply a commute! That is as opposed to a workout, etc.

Mine is 4.3 and rather nice. However, I often try and get home before getting to hot, but never seem to make it. I get to the garage and once I stop to get off and open the door I'm done - sweat comes rolling in.

It's not easy for me to ride to work. My start time @ work is 7:00am, I live over 10 miles away, & I'm not a morning person. There are no showers at work, so I pack a washcloth and use a bathroom stall. I have 2 vehicles, and usually drive the beater (1991 Escort Wagon).

My motivation is simply weight loss (I've got about 70lb to go) and burn less gas. Still, it's not easy for me to get up and get ready to leave the house before 6:00am, but I try to do it at least once a week. Although I've been sick since the beginning of the month, I've still been able to meet this goal.

52 times a year in nothing to sneeze at! Especially for a non-morning person.
