Mike is resting easy at home now. He still has to use the wheelchair or walker because he can't put weight on his left side yet, and the neck stabilizer is still in place. However, the prognosis with continued rehab (it's his daily job now) is back to walking! Until then, we have installed a wheelchair/walker ramp on the front door and are replacing carpet in the rooms he uses with engineered hardwood flooring. I know it's been hard for Mike to not get down and help us do the work; he's such a hands on guy. However, that said, his wife Heather is very happy! Keep up your thoughts and prayers for Mike, and it really seems like we just might see a miracle here. My only concern is for his back and neck, which might be a source of some pain for years to come, but only time will tell us that! My hope is that the next update on his status will come from him!

Having not logged on to BF for so long, I hadn't seen about what had happened and just noticed this was even a sticky thread today. I'm so glad that he's on the path to recovery and our of the hospital. I'm not in a position to chip in much, but I've got the page open and plan to make a small financial donation. This story also reminded me of my intent to start donating blood again, and I now have an appointment to make a donation at a Red Cross blood donation center Wednesday. My thoughts are still with MMach5 and his family. Best wishes for a full and complete recovery!

Thanks Michael. The three of us have the same first name! Anyway, my son and I got the carpet out this morning as Mike was leaving for therapy. He is completely himself and is getting stronger every day. August 16th is the tentative date for him to start using his left side for weight bearing, and I think will be when we see what his capabilities will be in the next 6 to 12 months. I'm excited because he's come so far so fast that I can't imagine him not burning past this waypoint as well. Hardwoods are being installed now through Friday. Thanks to all for your donations, prayers, and thinking of MMACH5!

Glad to hear that MMACH5 seems to recovering from such devastating injuries and I will add him to my prayer list.
Sure is an unpleasant reminder to all of us about just how vulnerable we really are out there even when we do everything right. Lets all keep our eyes and ears open and our heads on a swivel.

Scott, I talked to Mike and he will visit the forum when he feels up to it. I know there are lots on the thread that would try to understand what happened to Mike and how to learn from it. I talked it over with Mike, and we both agree that it is his story to tell, and will when he is ready. He knows you guys are pulling for him and that you'd like some more data.

Also, hats off to Rodenbaugh's Flooring America located in Allen,TX. Rodenbaugh's donated most of the flooring for the wheelchair-friendly flooring that was installed in Mike's house, and Mike's wife loves how it looks! Thanks again to all of those who have donated and helped directly and indirectly!

As I've mentioned to anyone willing to listen, Heather has been nothing short of heroic through all of this. I'm extremely fortunate to have her on my side. However, she is the first to say she could not have kept a level, positive outlook without everyone's prayers and support.*

Needless to say, I wouldn't be here with out the*contributions of the doctors and nurses at Baylor Medical Center. And beyond all reason, I'm going to come out the other side relatively whole. Most of my injuries are healed or nearly so. I've got about another week and half of non-weight-bearing on my left hip and wearing a neck brace."

MMach5 I too am recovering from a side-swipe hit from 2010. 2 surguries later, I am still not on the streets..God Speed.

All, just a quick update: Mike is back at the office today! I'm sure it will be a shortened work day, but like the Wynchell's Donut guy says, "It's time to make the donuts!"

From Mike's wife today:
[h=5]Mike said,"Went and rode the bike!!! Sorry. Forgot pics. Now I'm REALLY jonesing!!!". Therapist wanted to get him on a bike just to make sure he was mechanically sound from a PT perspective before he is discharged from the day program completely. Now he just has to patiently wait 2 more months before he is released to ride again!! Wish I could have seen the smile I know was on his face for this!!!![/h]

2 more months! Man I am sure it is driving him nuts to know that he can ride and just needs an approval from PT to be allowed to ride. So stoked he is making such a great recovery and I can't wait to hear that he is on a bike on a regular basis.
