Goofy Craigslist Sellers, I Want Another Commuter
In my area, CL finds are fairly rare. Most of the bikes for sale are Huffys or the equivalent, or they are used bikes for new prices, or nice bikes that have been stripped and turned into hipster fodder. Yesterday I see a Cannondale Touring bike from about 1998 that looks pretty nice. I have no idea what these go for used although the price seemed reasonable, but I do know that it's no where near the price of a new touring bike. I email the guy and tell him I'm interested.
He emails me and tells me there may or may not be someone else interested. I told him that I WAS interested in buying it but that didn't seem to matter to him. The bike has been on CL since the first week of May and I guess I just missed it earlier, but if it were me I would be selling to the first guy there with money. I went through the same thing with a guy selling a Lotus last year and never could get him to show it to me over the month that we emailed back and forth. What a bunch of nut jobs.

Subconsciously, he might not really want to sell it. He might just have the need to sell it sometime, real soon.

Send him another e-mail and let him know that when he's ready to sell you're ready to buy.
Remind him that time is money. Let him know that the longer his bike sits on Craigslist, the less it's worth to you.
When he's ready for some folding green, he'll get back to ya.
