Can someone hook me up with getting into an Effective Cycling class in or near Atlanta? I live in Woodstock, so the closer the better. I googled it but the latest schedule I found was Spring 2004. Thanks for any help!

Call or write the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign for their latest schedule. Or pm RonH here on the Bike Forum--I believe he works there now. Happy trails!

If you go to
https://www.bikeleague.org/instructors/byState.cfm?s=GA
you will find a list of GA instructors. Many of them live in Atlanta. Try contacting them at the phone number or e-mail listed. Ask when they will be putting on their next class, and/or to be put on their mailing list.

I sent a PM to peachpossumpie, but for other Atlanta area folks interested in taking an Effective Cycling (BikeEd) class ---

I work for the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign (ABC) and one of my responsibilities is the Effective Cycling coordinator (I schedule all the classes). I'm also one of the instructors.

We offer classes (generally on Saturday) in all parts of the Atlanta area, as you can see in the spring 2005 at https://www.atlantabike.org/ec.htm#EC6. We only offer classes in the spring-early summer and late summer-fall.

If anyone would like more information about the classes, you can email me at work at atlantabikeclass@mindspring.com or send me a PM or call 404-881-1112.

ABC's website is www.atlantabike.org.

Silly question, maybe, but what do they teach at these classes?

We teach gearing/shifting, minor repairs, bike traffic laws, lane positioning, emergency maneuvers, handling bike hazards (wet leaves, sand, etc), and riding in traffic.
If you want more specific details send me a PM.

Good to see other ATLien cyclists around these parts.

Anybody commute via bicycle? How long is the commute? What's the worst situation you've been in?

I ride about 3.5 miles each way from the east side of Peidmont Park to Howell Mill near the water treatment plant.

Will probably be moving to East ATL in the near future. Any good LBSs down in those parts?

Outback Bikes in Little Five Points and Bicycle South near Emory Univ. are both good shops. Here is a link to a good thread a few months ago about commuting in Atlanta.
