Bike to Work Month

Just a reminder that as of tomorrow, May 1st, 2002 it is officially "Bike To Work Month".

Bike to Work

Maybe this is the time for all you folks out there that have been "thinking" about commuting by bike to work to give it a shot.

Many larger cities even sponsor "Bike to Work" events and have a central starting point to gather. Even if your city doesn't have that, you can still do it on your own.

Good luck and get out there and have fun!

I would really like to see more cyclists commuting on their bikes. It really excites me to see someone else out there riding during rush hour.

I guess I'm hoping that eventually, as bike commuting becomes more popular, I will no longer be excited whenever I see another cyclist commuting, the activity having become so commonplace.

I'd love to bike to work but there is the Benicia /Martinez bridge in the way, no bikes allowed, they do provide a bike shuttle to get you over the bridge but by the time the shuttle service starts (6 am) I'm allready at work (5:30 am)

They'll have a new bridge in 5 years with a bikeway but I'll be retired by then....Maybe

yeah my jobs 27 miles away and i have to be there at 7am... i barely can get up and make it to work on time with out falling a sleep in the car... i've been known to fall a sleep at red lights and have to have people honk to wake me up. I road my bike to job number 2 on saturday though, of course when i got there they told me to come back later so i biked back home and washed my car and cleaned out the inside so after that and the 40 mile round trip to work and back i didn't feel like biking up there when i had to go back in.

hello all,
i started commuting two weeks ago. after reading about commuitng in "dirt rag" and riding to work on a couple of saturdays i couldn't contain myself any longer. the thought of getting in an hour and a half on my bike a day was like a dream.
i finally fell back on the quoat " do the thing you fear and death of that fear is certain." my fear was not of riding my bike but of being run over. i have a problem with getting run over. go figure. i feel great about commuting now. i work for a major computer corp. (in Austin) my building can hold 2500 people or so. we have about 15 "crank case' bike lockes at each entrance to the building (4) and my bike is the only one i've ever seen using one. maybe i'm encouraging others to try commuting by doing it myself. i'll let yall know if i see other commuters this month.

keep your blaze orange on and your batteries fresh,
Cael

sorry auto, but this is just the type of thing that can get someone seriously hurt (possibly yourself included). there have been several accounts of head on collisions on a rural highway leading out of vegas... reason? driver fell asleep. I'm not trying to attack you but it just sounded really dangerous.

I'm going to try to commute every day this month (I already commute at least 3-4 days a week) but I do find that getting on the bike helps wake me up, but maybe that is just me

be safe out there people

Bikes: Nakagawa

The weather has been so terribly poor here in Montreal since about 2 weeks now. We had a couple days of 25C in April and on those days I noticed about 8 bikes out of a company of 300, this was before I even had mine. I think that we should have about 15 regular rides over the summer. Maybe a bit later in May there will be more of an improvement.

I only see one bike coming and going each day (and even it has spent a few nights here recently)
