I ride in at 6:30 or so, most days I eat breakfast around 8:00, usually just a PBJ sammich or some kind of breakfast device like a cheese/sausage/egg burrito or a McMuffin. I absolutely never eat before riding, it makes me ill.
Right now I'm doing a bit of fasting and I don't eat until a small lunch at noon or so. |

I know. It's stupid. However, the only way I've been able to keep it up is to simply think of it as "my commute". Bicycling is the only form of exercise that I've ever found enjoyable. I don't enjoy it because of the physical aspect of it. I enjoy it because to me it's simply fun. Knowing me, if I were to look at it as exercise I'd likely lose interest quickly. Again, I know, that's a dumb way to think. Sometimes I can't help being dumb. |

I am not sure if these are better choices, but how about protein such as eggs, peanutbutter and a carb, be it oatmeal or toast or barley. I leave for work at 6am and eat after arriving at work each day. I bring my food from home. I makes small egg frittata's on the weekend, that look like muffins and eat them every day after getting to work. Along with my oatmeal and that makes for a very good breakfast for me.

No pre-commute breakfast, ever! But I have coffee when I get here, and a poptart about half the time.

About 4 out of 5 times a week, I hit Panara Bread. I carry MY OWN oatmeal & rasins, in a plastic container. At Panera I get green tea with lemon and honey, and a bagel.. Most of the time I have two pieces of friut with me. .I bring that too. Panera supplies the tea, bagel, paper, table and chair.. ;)

I just lol'd. I had a whole-wheat waffle with sunflower butter and a glass of silk fruit and protein. I feel like a champ.
Anyways, I usually just go breakfast bar or oatmeal or a banana at my desk. |
Someone here years ago mentioned that a PBJ sandwich is pretty much exactly the same thing as the fancy recovery bars that they sell; carbs, protein and fruit sugars. Bonus is that they cost a few cents and they're yummy. I've used them quite a bit as post ride breakfast since then.

If you had said, I go to a bar for breakfast, I'd have given you my number to arrange a meetup but alas...

B'fst Burrito, .. thin sliced ham & 1 egg in a warm pan then lay a flour tortilla on top.
cover and remove when cooked , roll up, and i can eat it even on the fly.. Opt:add the occasional leftover pork-fried-rice from the previous night's chinese restaurant hang out. |

This one made me smile. We've got McD's and over the top healthy on the same page.

During the winter, I'll have steel cut oats but I've never heard about using a slow cooker, what proportions do you use?

Doctor and I believe I'm developing a lactose intolerance. I like milk, love cheese (may just have to put up with the consequences) so it is not really by choice.
If you're sure you're lactose intolerant, just buy some lactase enzyme pills for when you want dairy. Why suffer without something you like to eat, or suffer the unpleasant symptoms of eating it without taking the lactase? I highly recommend Kirkland (Costco house brand) Lactase Fast Act tablets. They work the best of anything I have tried. |

I don't know what you mean? I thought I did. If your health is fine, more power to ya. :) I only meant it as a light jab. I mean cmon you cant expect to not get some flak for saying you eat 2 egg and cheese mcmuffins. DAILY. :D At any rate, I don't care what people eat, its everyones choice, and I certainly indulge in the pizza or beer on several frequent occasions. :)
I work 12 hours a day and I'm single AND I commute by bike. I have no time to prepare anything significant in the AM but by the time I near work I am starving. The place I work in runs 110mph all day long. I pound down something to keep me steaming until the smoke clears late afternoon. Then I eat raw vegetables and fruit. At home at night I eat next to nothing. My regiment dictates I eat big in the mornings. I came to this thread to see what the others are doing. I'd love to find something easy and filling that didn't have much grease in it but....my point to you is that not only is my cholesterol good, blood pressure good and blood sugar good but I weigh 168 pounds and at 53 years old I can still march from the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the top with a 45 pound pack before the sun goes down. I almost don't dare change the routine. |
Yeah I hear ya, if its your only big meal of the day the fat and grease is what's keeping you going. Only "crappy foods" have such a high density of calories, except for maybe nuts. I eat almonds a lot. They are very high in calories and really easy to eat on the go.
|
I get up at noon and go straight to lunch. On the rare occasions I do work mornings I will grab a granola bar and a nectarine or some grapes.

I cook a couple scrambled eggs. Only takes a few minutes.

I am a slow poke in the morning. Get up at 5:45 and out the house at 6:30... and don't have time to have breakfast in those 45 minutes (what DO I do in that time? Don't know, it's all blurry).
My coffee maker has a timer, so it's ready when I roll out of bed. I usually have some kefir and coffee and I am out of the apartment. I have a 30 minute leisurely riding type of commute but I need something in my stomach or I get grumpy. At work I eat whatever sounded goo to pack the night before... bagel and cream cheese, oatmeal (more in winter), breakfast cereal, muffins... my breakfast is usually sweet... but I will try some fritatas now that I saw that on here.
