Breakfast
I leave for work at about 6:15 for my 45 minute ride in, too early to get up a couple of hours before to eat and digest breakfast. Lately, I've been having a soy-based protein shake made with almond milk (have to cut back on dairy products) after I arrive at work but I am wondering if there are better choices for me.
Any suggestions? |
i usually have a cafe latte and some müsli mixed with fresh yogurt and some Lindt chocolate fragments. takes 20 minutes to prepare (i make the espresso in a moka pot), eat, read the news, wake up and get out the door.

also, why do you have to cut back on dairy?

I am not sure if these are better choices, but how about protein such as eggs, peanutbutter and a carb, be it oatmeal or toast or barley. I leave for work at 6am and eat after arriving at work each day. I bring my food from home. I makes small egg frittata's on the weekend, that look like muffins and eat them every day after getting to work. Along with my oatmeal and that makes for a very good breakfast for me.

I'm 53. I leave for work in 5 minutes. 5:30AM. I eat a banana and a granola bar before I leave to help make the grade to work. I top my grade at 2/3 way in where there is a Mickey Ds and I eat two sausage, egg and cheese english muffins everyday. I don't eat again until a few pieces of raw bracoli or coliflower at about 2PM. That's is it until supper.
My blood pressure this morning is 121 over 74. Blood sugar and cholesterol are excellent. I ain't changin' a thing. LOL |

Last night before I left for work (I'm on graveyards) I had some warmed over buffalo chicken and half a carton of Cherry Garcia FroYo.
The Cherry Garcia totally counts as fruit, right? |

I'd say eat a bar or something first thing, then follow it up with your typical shake or egg/car/fruit combo once you get to work. |
My commute is short ~5 mi. I stop at McD's get coffee on the way and eat something light at work. Mid morning I'll have a half bagel with peanut butter or mixed nuts. I get to work early tho.

I will usually not eat anything before my commute (40-55 minutes depending on route), but bring a couple of graham cracker and peanut butter "sandwiches" to eat when I get to work. These are delicious with water and then I'm good until noon.

Haha, fair enough. Different lifestyles, I guess. Animal products made my feel no bueno. So, plant-based for me! It isn't for everyone, but I have never felt better. |
I get up @ 5:30 a.m., leave the house @ 6:00 ish. That doesn't allow for any breakfast at all. I generally drink a glass or two of cranberry juice, or something of that nature.
When I get to work (20 miles later), I eat a few fistfuls of trail mix. At that point I'm good until lunch. |
I like cliff bars... Or bagels. Oh and I drink mostly water, maybe some OJ in the morning.

One of my co-workers is in the same situation with meat allergies plus some nut allergies: she used to be a hunter and fisher like her husband but no more, so 2 different meals are prepared everyday.

I get up around 5am, eat two slices of toast with butter and jam, an egg, plain yogurt, a large latté, and fresh fruit. About 800 calories to fuel my 90 minute commute. This lasts until about 10am when I have a mid-morning snack, then lunch at noon. At first, it was hard to eat so much so early the day, but I had to otherwise I'd get way too hungry at work. I don't eat a large dinner at night because I sleep better on a slightly empty stomach, so for me, breakfast is pretty important.

Most days lately my wife and I will drive together to drop our kids off at my families to be watched. As we leave the house I'll have a Clif bar. After we drop the kids off I then get dropped off at a parking lot so I can ride to work and my wife can go on her way. Seems I get some energy for my 20 minute ride to work, I am not a morning person. lol
Only had to bike from home once lately, 50 min ride, I ate the Clif bar 20 min before I left the house. I was a little tanked when I got to work but was fine until lunch. |

Raise and grow a lot of our own food and I like to start the day with a decent breakfast. Favorite is hash browns made with Peruvian purple potatoes and green onions from the garden topped with a couple of our hens fresh eggs over easy and a few pieces of fresh raw broccoli. This thread is making me hungry. :D |

31 years old here, I have the same thing every morning. 2 slices of peanut butter toast (with banana only about half the time as they disappear quickly in my house) and a bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar.
When I ride in, I wrap a fried egg in half a tortilla and eat it when I get to work. Tides me over until lunch. |
I leave on my morning commute about 6-6:15 am and eat breakfast about 5:30-5:45 am. Why do you need to eat so long before your ride? If I had to, I would eat 5 minutes before I left. Shoot, I would eat on my bike if necessary.

Up @ 4:07. PB on one slice whole wheat (toast takes too long). Leave 4:45, drive to catch 5:15 train w/7-eleven stop along the way for coffee, apple, banana. 6:10 get off train, ride 20 min to work. Banana about 8-9. Lunch, usually frozen thing from T. Joe's. Apple about 2:00. If i do an extended after work ride, l'll hit a bite from a clif bar, and nibble as neccessary. Down to 230 from 295. |
About 4 out of 5 times a week, I hit Panara Bread. I carry MY OWN oatmeal & rasins, in a plastic container. At Panera I get green tea with lemon and honey, and a bagel.. Most of the time I have two pieces of friut with me. .I bring that too. Panera supplies the tea, bagel, paper, table and chair.. ;)
