Bikes: See my sig...

You can also put me in the category of people who don't care... I use the computer on my touring bike and road bike to measure how well I am doing on the bike as I work to recover some form and when I see higher top speeds and average speeds over a set route it is a good marker of where the body is at.

At the end of the day, I am still slow.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has about a 10 mph moving average. Of course, I'm old and arthritic. But it's a really good day when I do 11 mph avs, and I'm practically supersonic if I ever do 12 mph avs.

I'm just glad I'm still able to ride.

Slow, and slower is how I roll. 13mph avg 12.5 to and from work, I'm big (getting smaller) and don't care , as long as I get home.

I get the same average speed of 12mph. I ride a Trek Dual Sport 8.2. The bike would be nicer if it had a higher gear or two. The highest gear is too low.

My avg speed is 13.3 but Im going a good 17mph when ever I look down at the computer. And thats on a full suspension mtn bike. Without it locked out. I have a few hills as well also I take my computer off my bike when I'm walking it. So I get more accurate readings. Ride on

CLARIFICATION:

I think some people are misunderstanding this thread as something of a pissing contest to see who can piss the furthest as in fastest average speed. On the contrary, if it seems like that, let me CLARIFY and APOLIGIZE.

The main topic of this thread was to SEE what is everybody's average commute speed, whether it be 1mph or 100mph

Even in my 4th or 5th post, I said, that from reading the first couple posts, it would seem that EVERYBODY'S average speed is about 12 to 16 mph. After reading all the post, this seems to be correct.

Again, this is no way, faster is better, just what is the average speed, that is all..

You all have to forgive the way I put things, sometimes they are misunderstood. After all, I am at the beginning stages of senility at 72 years old...

Yeah well, with these sorts of posts, it's kind of difficult to have it NOT become a pissing contest.

Any question about speed is going to be starting a bragging session.

on a camping tour, I was about under 10mph,
but I did get quite a ways in 3 months..

they started calling it Pivo, there, and the labels were in the Cyrillic alphabet

My commutes are between 12 and 13 mph, when I used to keep track. I stopped thinking about things like that when it started taking the enjoyment away from the commute . . .

Just a plain 10-11 mph average for me. There are 4-way stops at the bottom of every hill on my commute and that takes half the fun out of hills...

I'm slow and average about 7 mph (about 11kph) going to work and well under 5 (8kph) going home. I'm more about getting there than speed. That and the hills.

The main thing with a commute is that i do not want to get there all sweaty. Since my commute is along a river, wind direction plays a large role here. But generally it varies from 15 to 20 mph. I intentionally go slower when it is warm for obvious reasons and tend to put in more effort when going back (dont care about how I look or smell when I get back, usually take a shower anyway).

I'm new (in my 3rd month of bike ownership). My commute is 16 km each way. My *goal* is 32 km/h. So far my fastest has been 29.7 km/h. My average is 25-28km/h. Today the wind was 30, gusting to 40 km/h in my face - only managed 22km/h! Ugh. (Hope it stays that way for the ride in tomorrow morning - then dies. lol)
