I have been looking everywhere for a helmet that can protect my face from the Sun. My face has this ugly tan lines. I commute to work everyday, to and back for 40miles. The sun is really taking a toll on my face.

I even considered tri helmet, but their hot and ugly. Sunscreen, my skin is allergic to it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If you made a custom helmet or clothing or anything to protect yourself, I really want to some pics.

But seriously, finding a sunscreen you don't react to is your best bet, or getting some sort of light-weight fabric/netting to wrap around your face under the helmet. Or a big floppy garden hat that fits under the helmet. The changing position of the sun and your changing position as you go along your route will make it impossible to to always keep the sun off your face.

haha.. very funny. That's gotta be hot. Wish that it would work but the speed I'm going around 22+ mph would cause me in an accident.

Do you use sunscreen? Seems like that would be more effective than any helmet for sun protection. That said, Walz makes nice cycling caps with a brim that will fit under your helmet and help screen your face (mainly eyes) from direct sun.

I assume you have tried the hypoallergenic sunscreens? Neutrogena works for me, and some others don't.

What time do you commute? Can you arrive at work before 9:30a and leave after 4:30p? That would minimize your sun exposure.

That is exactly what I do, arrive before 9am and leave after 5:30pm. I have terrible skin and hate UV as much as the OP. But I am fortunate to have a shorter commute (6 miles) and arrival/departure times that are during low UV periods.

I'm glad the 'dabrim' solution was found for the OP and others who don't have short commutes or have to travel during mid-day when UV is at its most full evil.

No helmet will protect your entire face from the sun. I wear 50sfp sunblock that's made for face, doesn't itch, on long dayrides and never get burns. Wear a thin HeadSweats skullcap under the helmet to prevent burning your scalp through the helmet vents.

Do some research into sunscreen as not all are created equal or even close. Try to find a physical sun block vs a chemical block and of course as natural as possible. Wholefoods is a good place to look, demotologist often have free samples of different kinds. Even the more expensive sunscreens are going to be generally cheaper than having parts of your skin cut out or worse.

I purchased a sun hat from REI for only 17 dolaars. also have you considered going to the health food store regarding sunblock?

I hate to be obvious, but has anyone mentioned wearing a cloth ball cap under the helmet? Unless you ride straight up, you won't get any sun on your face.

The sun is getting evil. I ride every day to work and back as well as exercising in the morning (before the sun comes up thankfully) and riding longer rides in the weekends. My hands go so badly cooked a few weekends back when I lent my gloves to a newbie that I'm missing several layers of skin 2 weeks later. . That will teach me to not pack sunblock. I figured we would finish the whole 120km in the usual 4-5 hours. But, being new he took 10 hours and I had to motivate him (and fry the whole way) for the whole course.

For those with sunscreen allergies/sensitivities---I have the same problem. Most susncreen breaks me out in a major rash or stings my skin horribly. What I've found through the years, mostly through trial and error...

Sunscreen labeled for babies, and without PABA, will generally be fine and not cause the rash. It works well and is less expensive sunscreen specifically designed for faces, which seems to be the only other thing that works.
