I think you might want to put a carbon drop bar on with some nice Di2 shifters plus some time carbon pedals:)

And a Brooks saddle for good measure. :D

A bike without a Brooks is like one without handlebars. ;)

Old chrome moly rigid MTB. Trek 700 or 800 series, Specialized Hardrock, Giant Boulder or Yukon, Schwinn Frontier, etc. Cheap, tough, comfortable, easy to find, all use common parts so no ordering oddball components over the internet. Many came with 36-spoke wheelsets adequate for commuting. Not the lightest framesets out there but you are looking for a workout on a short ride anyway.

I have been using an old Diamondback Ascent (1991 vintage) converted to a single-speed to commute in bad weather and Minnesota winters. It has been great. Reliable, low maintenance, and cheap. What more can you ask for?

With me it will start off with an innocent seat post and end with a set of Campy Record hubs. :D

I can't believe you bought new tires. ;)

Well, I missed riding my Shogun and parked the Beater. One of my new co-workers was chatting with me about wanting to start riding so I gave The Pig to him. Came in the other day all agiggle about how fun it is to ride.
Another member of the rolling cult is born. :D
