I bought two of something similar to this. The lanes are narrow.

It has 5 lights that will stay solid flash or chase plus the two laser lanes. They were on ebay for under 10 with free shipping. I bought them mainly for the novelty and the rear flashing lights. They have been fun on group rides as a conversation piece and they also put a stripe on your calf as you ride. I doubt any car could see the laser lanes unles it was super dark or they were close enough that it wouldn't matter anyway. I like them though.

I think your underestimating and undervaluing the visibility Monkey Lights provide, and additionally, they're peerless in their category; no other wheel lights that I've seen come close to their brightness.

Regarding balance, care does need to be taken when mounting them, and an opposing pair is best, although a single unit, when properly located near the wheel center, is barely noticeable, particularly at typical, recreational cycling speeds. Bombing down a mountain at 50mph you'd probably notice it more.

I have these on my bicycles: https://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-Spoke...words=spokelit

Amber on the front, red on the back. My co-workers who have seen me riding at night with them say they are very attention getting. I run them on steady because I figure the movement of the wheel will make them more noticeable than flashing would.

You can't drag around real lane lines, but you can drag around a real traffic cone!

You could put little wheels on it, and some kind of angled boom from the axle. Fascinating idea.

hmm, to go along with that if you could make a realistic looking giant pothole on a really low trailer it would be even more effective.
