Also off topic, but the piccolo and double bass mention in the same sentence reminded me of the time I heard my college band playing Stars and Stripes Forever in the town green. When the piccolo solo came around, instead of the piccolo player, the whole tuba section stood up and proceeded to play the piccolo solo, several octaves down, of course! It was priceless!
