commuting in the Frankenstorm?

Will anyone living on the east coast commute by bike on monday morning? I live up north so I may try.

mikemartin 10-28-12 08:58 PM

Probably, I have work tomorrow and my bike is my only transportation. NJ is supposed to be the worse last i checked :(

Paramount1973 10-28-12 09:24 PM

Nothing to commute to, they closed my site. I wouldn't want to be on a bike in 50-70 mph winds anyway.

Take care. Is there no public transport you can use?

Might have to if my job opens.

Frankenstorm is just a lab rat scientist. You can probably take him. Frankenstorm's monster on the other hand.... Well, treat it respectfully, and you'll probably be fine. He's not really a bad guy. He didn't know that little girl couldn't swim.

But uh, don't ride in hurricane like winds. That'll just blow you all over the place.

kenwer 10-29-12 02:24 AM

All transit is shut down in New York, but I still have to go in to work. I won't be riding in because I might have to get home quick if my wife and baby need me. Hopefully quick will still mean by car once this thing hits.

chefisaac 10-29-12 02:34 AM

Just got in. It was windy and rainy yes but to be honest, it was a hell of a lot of fun. Head wind though but that means tailwind on the way home :)

essiemyra 10-29-12 04:58 AM

they shut down work, so I will be staying in today. No need to ride anywhere today.

EmeralDQueen 10-29-12 05:15 AM

I will suggest to use commonsense and stay safe.

I was totally soaked but it was a lot of fun. Often times, a bike is the way to go. Many roads were flooded but with a bike, taking different ways makes life easier.

To OP. You're kidding, right?

If you're really in Quebec, then you have nothing to worry about today. It won't reach you until at least tomorrow.

Being in southeastern PA, I drove in today.

.

I really live in Quebec so I got in safely on my bike this morning. The ride back home tonight should be fun as I should have a 50-65 kms back wind!

I'm just outside Chicago and rode in without any out of the ordinary problems (unless you count the rectum in the Cadillac), but I'm anticipating much stronger winds on the way home.

Nice story! If you've got the right gear, it's easier to get around by bike in times like that than by car.

Local Milwaukee news is stating that western shores of Lake Michigan could see 17'-30' waves once the winds get to our area.

I need to get a new memory card for the camera and head down to the harbor.

Decided to play it safe and drive. The winds weren't too bad in NC this morning but gusts over 40 mph are expected later in the day, plus it was raining when I got up. I've got nothing to prove and my commute is more than an hour each way, so I had no desire to ride that far in driving rain.

erig007 10-29-12 10:50 AM

even higher waves. As shown here someone has just met frankenstorm

Live in Richmond VA and rode into work, not to bad in the morning, a little rain and no wind. But I'm going to get a lift back home at the end of the day and leave the bike at work. The wind is going to pick up and we have a lot a trees here with shallow roots. Too risky but my new Showers Pass rain jacket worked like a charm.
Stay safe and dry.

zandoval 10-29-12 11:15 AM

Hurricane winds at your back must be something when on a bike - Or in your face when surfing...

But I think I'll pass on both of them...

Rick@OCRR 10-29-12 11:25 AM

Frankenstorm sounds very scary to me, but maybe that's just the media getting worked up. Good thing I live on the opposite coast (and only worry about earthquakes!). Commute this morning was quiet and windless.

The weather in Toronto hasn't turned too bad yet - light rain and a bit blustery - but they were predicting possible 100 km/hour (60 mph) winds for later today so I wimped out and took the bus.
