Thinking of a Surly Troll build but have questions about transferring components...
I've been kicking around this idea for a while now of buying a Troll frame and transferring the components from my 2007 Fuji Tahoe (26") over to the Troll. The Tahoe has fairly good components - Sram x7, x9 and probably the only weak area is the Avid Juicy brakes but when adjusted right they work fine.
Here's a link to the full Tahoe specs on Bikepedia:

I figure I can get at least $100 for the Fuji frame and Rockshox fork to help offset the cost of the Troll. Unfortunately I just never felt completely comfortable on that Tahoe frame and have always preferred the ride of full rigid frames.
Anyway, does anybody have any thoughts or opinions on whether those components will transfer? Any thoughts and advice are appreciated.
Thanks!

The only thing you may run into is the seatpost needing to be changed if your Fuji is not 27.2 but there is a good chance it is. There is also a chance you will need a shim to make your front derailleur work and possibly a different BB if the shell widths are different. Other than that you will need new cables/housing but all of this stuff is pretty cheap and very much so worth it for the upgrade.

I'm looking at an 18" frame. Based on research I have done the 18 should work well for me.

There are a lot of online sellers for the purple troll in size 18 ($500-525 for the frameset) but nothing in orange size 18 that I could find.

Yep, you are gonna need a new bottom bracket; I'm pretty sure that the fuji has a 68mm shell, and the troll deff has a 73mm shell. I would also just get a new headset rather than pulling the one in your tahoe and putting it on the troll; I have been very happy with my cane creek S-3 headset (have it or its predecessor on 2 bikes), but there are certainly decent-quality headsets to be had for a bit cheaper. You also may need to get a new stem; no point in spending several hundred dollars on a bike and then not dialing in the fit.
Happy building!

Thanks fotooutdoors - I counted on a new headset and was planning on the s-3. Never thought of the bottom bracket difference so thanks for that.
Fortunately this stuff is inexpensive.

Your LBS likely has a QBP account, order thru them and you save on shipping .
support them and they will help your many questions, too.
the other sells at retail, after Getting it from QBP to their door, that is part of the cost,
then you need to pay another shipping to get it there.. to you ..

Unfortunately the shop near me says the size I need won't be available from QBP until March. I don't mind waiting but that's a little long....
Probably just end up ordering online.

Thanks alan - I never thought of that.
Yes - I will have a shop install the headset. I've done one with a home made press on an inexpensive frame but won't take any chances with this one.
