Probably ring. My ring is titanium also. Mine has never slipped off, but I have noticed it slightly looser fitting lately. When we went to the beach I did not wear it out in the water.

You skinny guys who are losing rings need to chain your ring to your watchband, sort of like the chain on a trucker's wallet.

I didn't feel like riding in this morning. Mostly because I didn't feel like going to work, but I guess that's normal for me. Nice ride though: the moon is still up illuminating my scenic ride. One car passed me leaving Falls City, and none others for the final 8 miles of my ride. That's the way I like it.

Today was my second day riding on my B17. My seat bones were a little tender but it was OK. On my other saddle, I'm prone to getting a sore muscle in a left hamstring. I've been to two massage therapists and they failed to fix it, though it still seems to me like an issue that could be fixed that way. It's difficult to stretch that particular muscle. Anyway, it doesn't bug me at all with the Brooks saddle. Dunno why, as I don't know what causes the pain in the first place.

CVskates post reminded me of something from Wednesday. I was pedaling along and noticed a tree with ripe (err, mostly) wild plums, so I stopped to eat them. No need for energy bars this time of year. A motorist stopped to ask if everything was OK, which was really nice, so I explained what I was doing. Then he asked "Do you know this road turns to gravel?" I bet he's a bicyclist, just not a Fargo rider. Yeah I knew, that's a regular route for me, but usually later in the day. I told him I had the bike for it.

I've stared at the picture a few minutes, but I guess I'm missing it. It looks to me like he is using his U-lock to lock the pipe to the lower frame tube. Are you just thinking about the way the shopping cars will whack his handlebar?

After about six weeks of bike commuting two to four times per week by bicycle, I've been wondering why my weight hasn't changed.

I wear the same kind of pants every day to work and this morning it seemed like they were just hanging off me. I had to pull my belt in one hole tighter.

I may not be losing any weight according to my ancient bathroom scale, but my stomach is thinner and I feel great, even on days I don't ride. Maybe I'm building leg muscles and losing fat, so the weight is the same? Or maybe I just need a better scale.

Either way, I'm hoping for a late arrival of winter so I can keep on riding to work instead of driving. I really enjoy this forum as well. Thanks to all who participate here. I learn something every day here.

You said you're losing inches, clothes are fitting looser, and feeling great. Why would the scale matter at all? It's just a number. You don't stamp "196 lbs" to your forehead, however your waistline is pretty easy to see. Keep at it, and don't let the scale fool you!

Been commuting by bike to work for the last 8 weeks by bicycle 5 days a week, I have actually sold my car for the time being, but we still have my wifes car for other things.

Bit of a flu this week though, hope to get over it this weekend, i have just been riding slower then usual on my commute to not wear myself out.

still can't believe it though 8 weeks, 5 days a week. time flys.

Maybe I'm wrong, but with a decent bike and a ulock that size I would at least lock the front wheel and the frame to the pipe.

Great commute today! Carpooled home yesterday and swam this morning, so I felt very good for the ride. Perfect weather as well. Took it easy to save for tomorrow's race and still riding at 22 mph. Hope I feel that good tomorrow!

Winter riding

Commuting since early May, 20 Km one-way, to work. First year spending serious time on the bike. Presently riding 200+ Km / week and I just want to go farther and spend more time on the bike. Car/bus= incarceration. Bike= FREEDOM! However, this is Canada, and winter is soon arriving. Any tips on safe winter riding are appreciated. Thanks.
Shane

First full commute (15 miles) since Monday of last week. A series of flats (3) had me sticking close to the bus routes.
It felt good but every little bit of road noise had me checking my rear tire.

warm upper 60s, humid.. but tolerable.
It was good to be back on the streets.

beautiful super early morning commute in the dark.

tarwheel 08-26-13 06:19 AM

Great commute this morning, with cool dry weather. Wore arm and leg warmers for the first time in months. Students went back to school today, so the buses were out in force. Looks like I'll need to start leaving home earlier again to avoid the extra traffic.

wphamilton 08-26-13 07:08 AM

Mornings like this are golden, mid 60's which for me is cool, the sunshine melting away the wisps of fog in the forest clearings. On the high traffic street approaching our offices the city has surprised me by adding a white line over the weekend marking off about three feet, effectively a bike lane. Not that it makes me much safer but it should manage motorist expectations on that stretch.

dramiscram 08-26-13 07:19 AM

Cloudy sky, a little tailwind, nice commute.

jrickards 08-26-13 07:36 AM

Overcast, misty but mild and roads were essentially dry so I got to work dry (sweat excepted) but likely not the same going home, I expect to be rained on.

501 the whole way? I go from East Pete to Lititz.

Another fine morning! But very heavy traffic. More trucks than usual, and long backups at lights. There is so much construction going on in the county that my guess is traffic has discovered my route to avoid it.

Forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow is in the 90's, hopefully I'll be able to get home before the tstorms.

arsprod 08-26-13 08:20 AM

First commute since my tumble last Monday - great to be back on the bike. Upper 60's and beautiful - bracing for near 90 this afternoon and the rest of the week.

Nice to know that you're back on the bike. :thumb:

Drafted a bus out of the transit center all the way up to 28 mph (We started from the outside of a double left turn pocket). Got nervous and broke off into the bike lane. Guy in a Honda following beeped and gave thumbs up after passing.

Weather here has been fairly constant since June except for my morning commute. It has been within two degrees of 64F at 5:15 AM for months.:D

After riding only fixed for a week, I was back on a geared bike today. I haven't forgotten how to shift, but the fixie has evidently made me afraid to coast. I kept pedaling downhill until I would remember that I could coast instead.

Chased another commuter for a while today, and passed him on a short hill. Then he chased me for a bit, but I figured I would bury him on the much longer, steeper hill ahead. I didn't. Got to the top, and he was right behind me! Buried him on the next downhill instead, because I took a shortcut on the road, and he stuck to the longer route on the trail.

A little warmer today at 14C/57F, cloudy, and no wind. Might need to start running lights in the morning soon.
