50F/10C and sunny. We've finally kicked winter out and everything smells nice. :) I took the MUP. Lake Champlain is glassy smooth.

jrickards 05-01-13 07:04 AM

Nice and warm (15C, 60F) with a high of 22C (72F) and sunny now and this afternoon BUT I SLEPT IN AND HAD TO TAKE THE BUS AND I'M ON THE HOOK FOR MAKING DINNER TONIGHT SO I WON'T BE ABLE TO RIDE TODAY, BLEH!!!

dramiscram 05-01-13 07:25 AM

Nice morning, sunny low wind, birds are singing! I woke up on time so I was able to advantage of such a nice day!!!

We are having Seattle-type weather again -- cool, cloudy and drizzly. Normally we get mostly sunny weather in NC, but we've had way more than our share of cool/wet days this winter and spring. Oh well, it beats hot and humid any day. Got off to a late start this morning for various reasons, but my commute was very fast-paced due to the cool weather and a nice tailwind. For the second day in a row, the drizzle made it hard to see after my glasses got covered and I arrived at work all damp but not soaked.

Beautiful morning ride, 60F, no wind, and got to ride the first few miles with my middle son. Ride home yesterday was on city streets instead of mup because of an appointment. We have some new bike lanes but it's clear that drivers don't understand them and/or don't pay attention. Makes me appreciate the mup even more

BTW, do you live/work near Hatley? My sister-in-law's parents live there.

I'm approximately 100 kms from Hatley but we know the area a bit because there's two nice campgrounds near Hatley that we go at least two-three times every summer. The Hatley area is very nice and the scenery makes it a very nice place for a bike ride.

It was a little soggy on the way in this morning, 43F (6C) and dropping. They are talking about it changing to snow later today and over night. I rode anyway, I don't care at this point. This has been the weirdest spring I can remember. It was still a nice ride in.

I'm a strong believer in Brooks saddles. They are by far the best.

Drove to work on the first day of Bike Month due to needing to pick up the kids from their martial arts.

Rode to a local mall. Its usually a 20 minute ride and it took me 20 minutes to ride there. Wat. Kinda proud of myself lol. Its my second day riding this year and i dont usually time myself either.

22 C and sunny over here.

First day of the new commute after relocating from Raleigh, NC to Orange County, CA. Did a one-way on Monday (work to home, dropped the truck off for service) to check the route and time. http://app.strava.com/activities/51523928 This morning was 59ish, no wind, overcast. Left the house at 0606 and arrived at 0707-it's mostly downhill coming in.....The new route is ~65% bike trail, which is very nice. Only one busy street with a crummy bike lane.

2nd day of commuting ever, and the morning is beautiful. the fog and sun coming up looks beautiful over the farm land i ride past just before i get to school. traffic is great in hte morning.

the ride home on the other hand...
stiff 11mph headwind.
and a hill that just destroys me. over exactly 1 mile, the elevation increases by 110ft. it's a long slow climb but jesus does it just zap my energy.

Mumonkan 05-01-13 05:08 PM

60F 17mph wind, my cheap ass $8 strap finally broke for good on my way home, took the short way back since i couldnt pull on the left side

surprised they lasted as long as the have to be honest, ~1500 miles

dcb23 05-02-13 04:47 AM

Saw a little fox hanging out on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this morning..didnt seem too concerned about me or anything else.

Another perfect Springtime ride in.

jrickards 05-02-13 05:55 AM

Beautiful morning, too sunny for my yellow sunglasses (yellow tint, for low light), shouldn't have swapped out the bronze lenses in last night. Currently 13C (56F) with a forecast high of 22C (72F), little wind, beautiful. No significant wildlife, just robins and crows. Oh, I did see a duck species that I didn't recognize, smaller than a mallard and black and white on the head. The ice left the lakes this weekend; last week, most of the lakes had a sheet of ice on it, this weekend's sun and warmth (and continuing through this week) has rid the lakes of the ice. Not warm enough for a swim but a co-worker is threatening to go in for a dip, she likes to see how early she can go in the lakes each spring.

tarwheel 05-02-13 06:15 AM

Another day of cool, cloudy weather with light mist and a stiff north wind. It's made my morning commutes a breeze with tailwinds most of the way, but afternoons have been tough. The last two days my average speed was 17+ mph in the morning and about 15 mph in the afternoon, all due to the wind. I almost talked myself into driving this morning, mainly because I was dreading the afternoon commute, decided to ride at an easier pace today.

Mumonkan 05-02-13 06:27 AM

55F 0mph wind

paracord strap in full effect.

fell for the 3rd time this week cuz a service vehicle was blocking the path, wheel got caught on the curb and i kept turning

Hate falling, hope you're ok, hope you didn't fall on the same body part each time, that would suck!!

the important question, did anyone see you fall? Beautiful morning, 60F, pretty stiff headwind, but no falls

wphamilton 05-02-13 07:30 AM

Windy but otherwise very pleasant. The "light rain" of the weather report, as far as I could tell was just mist.

I installed a triple ring this week, replacing the single ring I had for an upcoming hilly century ride. I only had a sora double shifter handy, but oddly it shifts to all three rings using the trimming click for the center. If a bit finicky. But now I'm mulling over jury-rigging it to shorten the cable lever arm to increase pull. Obviously I should just buy a double ring or triple shifter, but I'm too much Fred for that.

dramiscram 05-02-13 07:33 AM

Very very nice morning, a warm 15 celcius, no wind, no traffic. I saw the first fisherman of the season by the river this morning, It's a good sign.

Steely Dan 05-02-13 10:30 AM

i forgot to check the marine forecast before i left this morning because i'm an idiot.

30-35 mph NNE wind ripping off the lake.

my commute is only 15 miles, but it felt like a half century this morning.

i was 15 minutes late for work; should've taken the inland route.

caloso 05-02-13 10:40 AM

I really try to restrain myself from giving unsolicited advice to other cyclists. Exceptions: yelling at salmon, ninjas, and ninja salmon. And for safety reasons, such as in this morning when stopped to tell a rider that he had his helmet on backwards. He was an older guy, about my dad's age I guess, and he seemed a little embarrassed but good-natured about it. "You can see I am new at this biking thing."

Otherwise, a fine day for a ride, if a little breezy.
