Morning temps inching up about a degree per day, today 60F. I figure by the end of June it should be about right

First ride in this week because of out of town meetings. Felt slow but actually, my time was quite reasonable. 8C (46F) and cloudy but should warm up this afternoon.
What's with 8C in June? I know I'm not in Arizona or other hot location but, sheesh, this is abnormally cool for June. We had a warm spell a few weeks ago, I guess summer fell on a Thursday in May this year.

I had the same senario on Wednesday, I made it most of the way home dry and then the last mile or so the skies opened up.

Wussed out this morning. My commuter is awaiting a new bottom bracket and further frt der fiddling. I hopped on my Medici (have ridden it a couple times to work in the past week). I flatted just about the train station. I didn't feel like fiddling with my tubular there, and risking basically the entire 25-mile round trip without a spare, so I walked home, dressed, and hopped on my around town beater for the short ride to the train.

I had a nice rode all the way home from Salem yesterday, about 41 miles total for the day. The grass pollen made red welts on my arms. Never saw that before.
A couple of days ago some were mentioning songs in their heads... mine was "Carefree Highway" by Gordon Lightfoot. Yeah I ride slow.

I made a good call on driving the past two days -- we had 5" to 7" of rain in the area from TS Andrea with high winds.
Today I had planned a 50-60 mile out-and-back ride on the local river trail. The rain had lingered until early morning, so none of my friends wanted to ride. I did some chores around the house and then headed out about 11 am, just as the sun was finally coming out. My ride didn't last very long however, as there was a lot of flooding on the trail as well as storm debris. I made it out about 10 miles before I hit the first flooded portion. Debated turning back but it wasn't too long and I could see tracks from other bikes, so I rode through that portion and got thoroughly soaked as it was deeper than it looked (about 12"). I only rode about 2 more miles before I hit another flooded portion, this one much longer and deeper. I didn't want to risk it and my roadie tires weren't gonna work on the detour that mtn bikers had devised, so I turned back and finished up with about 25 miles for the day.
The stupid thing I did was taking my nice road bike with 25mm tires. I knew better and originally planned to ride my touring bike with fat tires but didn't want to get it dirty. Then I planned to ride my commuter bike with fenders and medium (28) tires, but for some reason grabbed my nice bike instead. So I spent about an hour cleaning up my commuter and road bikes after I got back.

The commute home was an adventure last night. I decided to wait out the storm, thank goodness, and then cut through the Greenway to see the damage. I've never seen so many trees down there, and that's before I got to the serious part. Every few hundred feet, sometimes less, I was porting over some tree or wading through run-off. Sticks and branches and other debris was everywhere as if the forest had exploded. I'd just about decided that I was past the worst of it when I saw an older lady coming towards me - she'd turned back from a really big blockage up ahead, she said "impassable". No offence but I had to see for myself, maybe force through. This she had to watch, being dubious about my chances, so of course I couldn't give up easily. This tree, on it's side was about 10-15 feet high foliage but I found a way through under the trunk, forcing smaller branches and vines out of the way. Through the smallest aperture she passed first my bike, then hers. Her's was a Cervelo, so amazingly light I felt like we could have just tossed it over but I kept that to myself. It was still raining pretty hard by the way, and the older lady out in this with her Cervelo, wishing out loud for a machete, piqued my humor enough that I determined to continue as far as possible. We repeated this sequence several times until we came to what seemed to be a entire grove of trees stacked across the path. I ventured inside 10 feet, then 20, maybe even 30 feet where I climbed up across some trunks like a ladder to peer ahead. Through the rain, up to a curve up ahead I could not discern the end of it. Reluctantly I turned back, and we fled back the way we came, going our separate ways at the surface street. Which was oddly completely clear in my direction and completely filled and stopped in hers. But we both agreed that it was one of the funnest commutes in recent memory.

Wow, wphamilton, that is some ride home. I am glad mine is a lot more tame than that. I hope mine never gets that adventurous.
Anyway, the ride in this am was quite pleasant at 50f and just a bunny and a turtle for a wildlife.

60s, humid, roads were wet.
Still a very good ride.
For some reason, and the times bear proof of this, I seem to be faster on wet roads.

First time in more than two weeks to commute on my bike, due to work issues and a huge rain-maker off the coast that became this seasons first tropical storm. Today's commute is the first with my new Windwrap fairing on my long wheel base Bacchetta recumbent, and you could tell it was there. Average speed into work was up over 1 mph on the 7.5 mile ride to 16.3mph. I think I'm going to enjoy having the fairing on the bike. Oh, 74 degrees, with a 97% RH on the way in this morning, yeah, I was soaking wet when I got to work...

we sure have had some rain in North Carolina the past few days. I was able to ride wednesday and then thursday and friday thought a boat might be in order. So. Much. Rain.
It is raining today as well.
I have a whole new respect for people in the Northwest who ride in the rain so much.

Just so no one thinks I'm totally nuts, I'd been tracking the storms from work and already knew that there would be relative calm for at least 1/2 to an hour after that cell passed through.

An interesting day so far... I dropped my car off at the shop with my bike in the back. I pulled the bike out of the car and glory be, flat front tire. Wheel was already off so no problem, quick tube change and off to work. The shop's not in a very bike friendly part of town and it rained last night so very wet - no problem, I soldiered on. Just as a goof at a traffic light I reached down to check front tire pressure - it was squishy but not flat. I kept going. Following trusty google maps I got to where there was the beginning of a downtown mup - street construction, couldn't use it. After going about a mile out of my way I finally got to work. I pumped up the front tire thinking I just didn't fill it enough when I changed the tube. About 5 minutes later I here a whoosh and leaking air coming from down the hall. The wheel and tube are sitting next to me and I'll get another tube in, probably just in time to go back and pick up my car. It's an adventure

They closed the bridge for work on my main route so I had to take the longer way around. I got a little wet and the hills are longer but it was a great ride.

Weather radar can be deceptive. I woke up to it showing that a major storm cloud was right on our doorstep, so I hurried and left early to beat it, rushing to work. There was a very light drizzle, but the storm hasn't hit yet, as far as I know (I'm sort of underground), so false alarm, at least as of shortly before 10am when I arrived. I arrived a bit damp, but mostly from the inside rather than the outside; oy, it's humid. I took bike share, for simplicity sake, and since it's supposed to pour this afternoon. I guess bike share is a nice option to have.

First time I stopped half way to have breakfast with some friends before continuing on to work. No rain today, even though it was supposed to rain.

Rear brake cable snapped on the way in. I knew it had been frayed for a while...will nurse it home after work relying on my ultra-squaeky front brake. Straight to the LBS!

Our lousy weather continues, with a tornado watch, rain and heavy thunderstorms forecasted -- so I drove again. This is getting old! We have had twice as much rain in the past 4 days as we normally get for the whole month of June.

Not that I mind riding in the rain, because I don't, but I need to stash a spare set of riding clothes at work. My clothes from this morning are soaked and don't look to be drying out any time soon. Once I'm on the bike I'm sure it won't matter, but there's something about changing into cold, wet clothes that just doesn't sit right with me.
