I got rained on on the way home last evening. WX forecast is for more rain today. I woke up and thought I heard raindrops outside. By the time I was ready to pack the pannier I had convinced myself that I would just ride 5 miles to the MTA P&R instead of taking the full route.
I opened the garage door - no rain.
I rode the full 14.5 miles, my best time yet 55 minutes. That's averaging a little over 15 mph, and that includes the stops at traffic lights and stop signs.
No traffic to speak of, caught most of the lights on green, no incidents.. just a great cruise in.
Even though there were dark clouds and threatening rain north of me, it seemed less humid than the last couple of days.

Rainy...but strangely refreshing and fast! I averaged 15.3mph which isn't my best, but it's more than enough to keep me happy.

Follow-up, for the ride home Friday; just when you thought it couldn't rain any harder - it did. I was drenched.

Monday morning; rain/storms still in the forecast, extremely humid, (WX report said 98%) and 75°.
It was humid enough that beads of dew were forming on my arms and shirt, little beads water on the end of my arm hairs.
I encountered quite a few cars but nothing of concern. We are expecting cooler temps and lower humidity by the end of the week.

Fast & Furious on the first leg of my commute(10 miles). Dark out, warm 75 degrees, strong front and rear lights, and on my #2 beater bike..

Warm and extremely humid this morning, like it has been every day in August so far. The weather is supposed to finally cool off after tomorrow, but we have a high probability of rain every day this week. Today is supposed to be the driest day but also the hottest, with temps reaching mid-90s and heat index over 100 due to the humidity. I can't wait for the weather to change. Heat and humidity are the worst, in my book.

My legs feel totally torched after my ride in. It seemed like everyone was in a hurry including me but I didn't ride all that hard. School is starting today in this area, so maybe that's just in the air infecting everyone.

Nice morning. A little cool at the outset, but it's still above 60. So, I warmed up quick. I think it was just a little drier than the saturated humid air I've grown accustomed to over the past few months. It was a little darker too, sun not rising until well after 6:30---summer is definitely on the wane.

Cool and muggy - noticing it's darker in the mornings. I want to share a story,

Over the past 3 years a good friend of mine has progressively lost his sight. He's basically blind now and can't drive. In February he started asking me a lot of questions about bicycle commuting and in May he started riding to work. Right, a blind guy riding a bicycle. He can see enough not to hit things (people) and 95% of his 15 mile commute (one way) is on mup or sidewalk. There are also bus routes that follow his route so he was combining bus and ride. This is a guy that never rode and in a few months he is riding 30 miles a day, every day.

He texted me this morning that someone broke into his garage and stole his bike. He has the means to replace it but come on universe, that's just not fair. How much bad luck does one guy deserve? I'm loaning him my other bike until he gets a replacement. So, this is a feel good/get pissed story. Enjoy the week!

I am pretty new to commuting on a bike. I landed a job in NYC and take the train in every day. I have a Swift folder that I use to get from the train station to work. Well today I didn't check the weather and when I walked outside it was pouring. The commute wasn't so bad but not having a spare set of underwear was a mistake! One more thing I will mark on my "must have" for the office list. -Ken

arsprod - a story simultaneously inspirational and heartbreaking. Glad you can help out your friend.

LongCommuter - welcome!

~15C/59F and muggy for the ride in. Streets and trails were damp due to T-storms overnight, but I didn't get rained on this morning. Took it easy and rode the scenic route.

Great! It was supposed to Thunderstorm and didn't so I took my slightly longer 16 mi no roads route! Will take 18 mi home weather permitting.

Ended up doing 33.4 total in great weather.

This guy is dedicated to riding - he made his son take him around to lbs' yesterday and bought a new bike, back on the road today! Another cool down and temps aren't supposed to go past the 70's the rest of the week. One upside of the nicer weather is I'm seeing more than the usual number of people commuting by bicycle

As if I needed more evidence that no system is fool-proof I was tracking a small rainstorm yesterday and decided that it would pass through before I headed home and I'd have a short window. Something happened, I think the air-con flickered, that had me surface from the queries I was deep into, and I looked up at the clock. It said "5", I saw "6" and high-tailed it out. Drops started falling in the parking lot and within a half mile it was a downpour that lasted until I got home, cleaned up and relaxing at my desk - it wasn't until I checked the time (5:38) that I realized what I did. Of course it was already letting up by then.

Even with the rain yesterday the Greenway has drained enough to be rideable if a bit muddy. It was a welcome change of pace this morning. I passed a group of old folks going slow (as self-described when I warned them of my approach). Some of them might have been my age, or no more than 4 or 5 years older - you want to be encouraging but what do you say? That ain't no excuse for slacking off? Of course I just smiled and bid them good morning, passing very carefully.

Good, but chilly at 58 degrees. My toes and hands were cold for the entire ride, and I had a headwind. Hoping for the tailwind on the way home tonight

I worked overtime yesterday & rode home an hour later than usual. Less traffic but dark clouds threatened and even rained a few drops on me. I stopped put on my bag covers and kept pedalling. It did not rain on me. It was a good ride home.

ride this morning so cloudy as well. I am sure I might be riding home in rain... maybe.

I have officially doubled the miles I bike commuted last year. yay
