I got caught in the rain on the ride back from class and had to wait out a stopped train underneath this creepy bridge. Another person on their bike hopped over in between railcars, but I didn't feel like losing my legs today.

Another nice morning commute here in Okeechobee, FL. About 66 degrees and humid this morning with just a breath of a breeze from the south. Made for a fast ride to work with a 16.3 average (about 1 mph faster than usual) on my 7.9 mile ride in. Sun was coming up with reds and pinks as I turned towards that highway and the last 3.5 miles of the ride up 441. I really enjoyed it!

I seemed to be stuck at the world's longest traffic signals this morning.

Tough commute this morning. Although the temperature was relatively warm (high 40s), it felt much colder due to a stiff wind out of the NW. Caught nearly every red light on my route and the final mile was directly into the wind. Finally got to my nice, warm office building and found out that our hot water heater was broken again -- for the 3rd time in the past 6 months -- so I had to take a cold shower. It was still better than driving.

Better than expected with a break in the rain this morning. Again, no other cyclists out, commuting or otherwise. They must all be believing the weather forecasts.

40f, a little windy

i got a pincher 2 miles into my ride to work, apparently that blob of snow was a super hard chunk of ice.

as i stand there patching my tube, 100+ cars creep by on their way to the jr high school at the end of the street

Out of all of them only one car stopped and asked if i was alright and needed a ride, just as i finished patching the tube and was pumping it back up

still made it to work on time though!

Much nicer than yesterday, 25F with no wind. I'll take cold over windy any day. It's now just light enough in the morning that I don't need a light... can Spring really be coming?!

Mid-40s and sunny for the morning commute. Perfect for shirts, a long sleeve tee and a short sleeve tee. Left the fleece at home this morning! Very nice ride in.

Running errands at lunch and then grad school classes tonight, which all means enough riding on top of my 14.5 mile RT commute to put me over 20 for the day. I love how much I can ride w/o even really trying.

Tomorrow evening may be a Valentine's Day dinner a day early for me and my wife, with her likely driving in to the city after I get off work to meet up, which means I'll likely be leaving the bike at home tomorrow morning in favor of the train. Maybe...

Last time I EVER use a bike path after a blizzard. It was 40 degrees and I totally slid out going straight as an arrow on a path. Back to the good ole road for me.

I'm doing 3 days a week, working up to 5. The 25-mile r/t tired me out pretty good yesterday. I push it fairly hard, which is something I only realize when I pick up other cyclists along my route. So right now, I'm doing a day on and a day off to give my muscles a little time to recover. Dunno if that's the right way to do it.

Temps right around 40F again this morning. Man, I hope it warms up soon (yes, I know those are 'nice' temps for a lot of you, but I'm an Az native.). Ride home last night was surprisingly fun. I was really cranking hard most of the way, and I think I beat my best time...unfortunately, MapMyRide decided this was the time to crash, and I couldn't get it to save my workout.

I'm going to take my longest normal route home tonight, with some good hills (about 15 miles, with several long hills, but some fun, fast downhills too!).

My first commute this year, and probably won't have another for quite some time. After dropping the family off to school, work I had to go back home because I forgot some stuff - used that opportunity to grab the bike It is completely not setup for commuting at the moment - has cross tires, less lights, no fenders or rack - but I had fun riding in again. Will have to leave office early though - the reasons for not being able to commute still exist even if I sneaked this one commute in!

Worst commuting in years today.

I replaced the chain last night, and things seemed OK until I actually started riding this morning. Skip, skip, clunk, kachunk - looks like I need a new cassette as well.

Nasty headwinds on the way home combined with a constantly skipping chain made me feel like tossing my bike in the river and walking the rest of the way.

Nice ride in, above freezing.

Last night's ride home was awesome, Spring-like temps out there. I was stuck for and incredibly long convoy of communications gear heading to the US Capitol for the State of the Union speech...but no problem.

I enjoyed the recently re-opened Navy Yard area river terrace along the Annacostia River near my home but where the gate opens up to let people out, the MUP has not yet been redone where some construction had taken place...so I rode over mud for a bit.

31degF this morning. Feels good to be back on the bike. All the snow and slush is gone from the roads as yesterday was mild. Black ice all the way made for a nice clean ride and zipped right along.

Cloudy, temperature just below freezing so last night snow turned into slush. some headwind but not much. Still felt good to be on the bike. 1h22 to get to work so not bad for the road conditions.

So, I tried a different route home last night. There's a brutal hill by the Boeing Rec center here in Everett. It's only about 1/4 mile, but it's probably 6-8% grade the whole way. The drop (in the direction I was going) is even steeper and shorter), but there's a good 120 yard flat where most of the speed bleeds off before hitting the hill. So I made it 1/3, maybe 1/2 way up before I couldn't suck enough oxygen to keep going.

Hill -1
Lane - 0

On the plus side, 52 mph on the way down.....

I feel tinges of spring in the air, more birds singing, a bit of light.

Pleasant ride in, above freezing.
