Performance Viewpoint Gen3 light
Has anyone used this light? I have a co-worker who has one. I drove today and passed him and could see his light clearly in my rear-view mirror. It was surprisingly bright and he indicates it has been pretty good. Does anyone else have any feedback? Keep in mind that this is not the digital version.

Performance is private labeling it. It was tested in Cycling Plus magazine a little while ago (Nitehawk) the claim in some of the sales copy is that it is as bright as a 10 watt halogen.
They tested it with a meter, it does put out equal light right in front of the bulb, but it falls off very fast and does not spread well.
It may well be bright for the size, and long lasting, but equal to a 10 watt halogen it is NOT !

Mine shakes and rattles all the time. I'm thinking the batteries are not that tight inside it. 2manybikes's description of how well it works is about right. I can see the road just about as well with a Cateye EL-300.

All these luxeons are great and all up front but they don't have nearly the spread as a halogen does. In much the same way that a halogen doesn't have as much spread as a HID>

Well, I bought it. I actually exchanged a Performance "Take 5" light and the Gen3 is much brighter. For my commute I believe it will work fine as it's only about 3 miles. I did notice that it rattled a little, but the light stayed on and was pretty sturdy on the bar, moreso than the Take 5.
I figure for $39.99 on sale it's a pretty good deal. When it dies I'll get another or maybe spring for a nicer light at that time.
