Does this seem like a good deal/idea?
I'm wanting to get a bike to make the 2.5 mile commute to work in Sacramento, CA, and also might be taking it on a long road trip with the Scouts this summer.

$130 seems like it might be kind of high for it, but what do you guys think?

It's probably a good deal if it's in reasonably good condition. Even if it turns out to need a few parts, maybe a chain, brake pads, or whatever.
As far as a long road trip, you should consider whether it can be outfitted with racks (a rear one at minimum).

That's a downright bargain! Those old steel Trek steel framed bikes make great commuters (and I believe the 730's use nice butted steel)! As mentioned above, even if it needs a bit of love, it's being offered at a great price--and it looks great. Good luck and keep us posted!

Bikes: Nothing amazing... cheap old 21 speed mtb
Good bike at a good price. Being older it will make a nice commuter as its less desirable as a target. It will probably need some fixes and upgrades to make it a really nice ride, but its a good base to start with.
