Road Construction

How glad I am to be on a bike...especially during summer road construction!

Able to ride on through with no delays! Some cars are waiting through 3 light cycles to get through the intersection!

Bikes: shiny red tricycle

I get great pleasure from filtering through traffic for several blocks, stopping at the the head of the line and then immediately getting waved through by a flagger before the cars are allowed to proceed.

I know, sometimes I feel lucky to be able to cycle. I went out on the Wednesday after Hurricane Sandy tore through here. It came on a Monday night. Not many people were out, because so many roads were impassible. I had to carry my bike over fallen giant trees. I also rode and walked near some downed power lines, but I was careful to keep a decent distance.

Traffic jams, road construction, and activated railroad crossings, are always a plus for me. That's especially so, when you can hear the train's whistle blowing half a mile away!

I don't go through traffic. I get in line like everybody else and take my turn if I am on that road. If we want to get along with people in cars we can't run down to the front just because we fit.

I always take full advantage of being a cyclist. Just like motorcyclists and auto drivers pass me whenever they get the opportunity, I often return the favor. I don't feel the least bit slighted, whenever they pass me. Hopefully, they don't feel offended whenever I bypass them, either. Sometimes, I even thread the needle as I navigate and slice my way thru urban traffic.

I roll something like this in the city:
