Hiking gaiter + waterproof shoes?

Hello

My experience showed me that bike gaiters (ie. overshoes, such as those from Vaude) aren't a good solution, as they don't fit very well and I don't know what to do with them once I get to a destination where there's no place to hang them to dry.

As an alternative, I'm thinking of getting hiking gaiters long enough to protect my legs the knee down, and a pair of waterproof shoes dressy enough to be worn in the city.

If you do use that combination, I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thank you.

Bikes: I have 3 singlespeed/fixed gear bikes

I use gaiters together with waterproof hiking shoes for winter riding when there is snow and slush on the roads.. Mine are made from gore-tex and they are long enough to reach all the way up to my knees. I like them very much they offer excellent protection to my lower legs and add a little bit of extra warmth.

I use gaiters for backcountry skiing when biking in questionable conditions and they're excellent when paired with waterproof pants and boots. But waterproof shoes dressy enough for use in the city********** No shoe is terribly 'dressy' when covered with road dirt. Suggest you look into carrying a second set of footwear or leaving something at the office.

Thanks for the feedback. There's no mud in the city, so this is not a concern. I just meant shoes that are OK to wear eg. in the office or restaurant.

What brands of waterproof shoes do you use?

Thanks but I can't wear LL Beans boots at the office.

Does someone know of dark waterproof shoes that can be worn in the city?

Thanks for the link. There doesn't seem to be much choice for waterproof shoes to ride bicycles and wearable at the office. Looks like there's a market.

I find it easier to keep some nice shoes at work.

Not just for the office, but any public place I go to (theater, exhibits, restaurants, etc.) So it's either finding normal-looking waterproof shoes or carrying a pair of regular shoes in a bag.

I'll investigate how people handle this issue in Holland/DK.
