commuting bike

Hey everyone, is there a bike made for commuting that has geometry more like a road bike, but that you are still able to use a rack on the back. I currently use my mountain bike, but would like something that is a little faster.

Bikes: Cannondale Scalpel, Trek Soho S (Commuter #1), Cannondale CAAD3 flat bar road bike (Commuter #2)

Jamis Coda is another fine choice that's a bit more affordable than a Surly.

looks like a pretty decent bike, couldn't find out much about pricing. What kind of racks do they accommodate for? I do like how they can handle a 32 tire though. My commute to work does have a gravel road on it. Any other brands of bike?

Most lower to mid level cyclocross bikes will fit the bill,as well as many non-competition-specific road bikes.

A 90's race oriented mountain bike with a rigid fork and long stem is another alternative - you can easily be as aero as a rider on the drops on a Surly, but you'll save a lot of money and have a more agile bike.

And unless you are anorexic or riding a much better gravel road than I have ever seen, I'd suggest a wider tyre than 32mm - a 40mm or 1.6 slick at least.
