Looks like a vacation! And, by the way that is one of the reasons why I commute to work by bike - because it feels like a bit of a vacation in the morning and in the evening.

My wife asked for a new bike for her 50th so we went out and ended up with a nice Specialized Myka Elite Disc 29. She wants to ride in to work and later on, go for some of the longer rides and tours that I'd like to do, especially with her. We fitted it with a rear rack, with the intention of attaching her old panniers to it but we saw a steel mesh rear basket that snaps on to the top of the rear rack that looked perfect for her needs (can't find a picture of it, can't be sure of the brand either). It has 2 handles that fold down and is about the same size and shape as a grocery store basket so it'd be perfect for a small amount of groceries too. She'll have to pack her stuff in waterproof bags if she wants to keep it dry but since she'll mostly be carrying her lunch, because she'll drop off her uniforms at work, she should be fine. Can't wait until she has sufficient fitness and confidence to ride in but that should come in a couple of weeks: we're going for bike rides each night.

Here is a virtually identical basket but this is the Basil brand, not the brand we purchased. I just have to find a rear light (I have a spare front that I've given to her) and a lock.

I got the job! 10 mile roundtrip instead of 36! I will hit a short heavy traffic on one of the 6 route options I have, will be enjoyable to zip by backed up traffic in the bike lane! This commute won't be quite as scenic, but still has some nice options
