A Small Victory :)

This afternoon my son and I rode to a local fishing spot and fished for a few hours...it's about 90 out and a wind has kicked up.
We ride home and upon opening the fridge I realize we're out of milk...Darn it!

I'm tired...it's hot and now the wind is blowing about 25 mph...I need to go to the store and I really don't feel like riding my bike...

After a minute or so, I look at my son, grab my helmet and tell him I'll be back in a little bit...he says "where are you going"? I'm going to the store to get milk...

He says with a puzzled tone "you're riding your bike?" I say, "yes I am"

Why don't you just drive? I told him because I don't need to...so I head out in the heat and wind for the 5.5 mile round trip to get a gallon of milk...

I get to the store...lock my bike just outside the door...get the milk...place it in my Topeak trunk bag and head home...

Fix dinner and start enjoying watching the NBA finals...

A small victory....

But it sure felt good

Bravo! Those car keys are so tempting sometimes. I probably would have used 'em, so you're a better man than I.

So the take away lesson from the story is: make sure there is milk in the fridge, always.

For me the temptation is when it is 8:55pm, cold and raining, and the redbox dvd is due back by 9pm. I'm about 1/2 mile from the grocery store (redbox). I tell myself I'm building character. Although I would sooner eat the additional $1.20 rental fee than drive the movie back.
