GF started commuting today

She was pretty excited. She just got a new job which is a block away from our usual route into town, about 2.5 miles away from the condo. She is taking her newly refurbished '69 schwinn breezer (3 speed) with a front basket. Cup holder, knoggs, 2watt headlight. She has an office job so she is wearing sun dresses and sandals.

I have been doing this for three years, .5 miles to 3 miles, and travel out to La Porte (19 miles) at least twice a week year round.

I think she is pretty well set up but I wondered if there are any women specific things she might want to make it more enjoyable. And my bike locks are usually on the frame but that doesn't work well for her frame, just carry it in the basket?

Good for her, and you, if you did the refurbishing.

I carry my u-lock in my basket. Shouldn't be a problem on a short commute.

As a woman who commutes, I'd say just make sure her saddle is comfortable for her, and that the geometry of the bike is conducive to a women's frame. What I mean by that is the handlebar width, stem height, top tube length, etc. Other than that, she should be all set!

Thanks, we talked about this last night and she said the bike feels pretty good. Last week I changed the seat angle and raised the handlebars, and she said it is now perfect.
