1. You can get cross bikes with frames not much heavier than a road frame. Fuji and Giant come to mind.

2. Suspension is annoying on the road. For the times you hop a curb, use technique. For rough roads, pick a line and pedal through it. The 35mm tires will take care of bumps.

3. Better leverage out of the saddle, more comfortable position for long rides.
