Forgive me if this has already been asked but seeing that new products are released each month, I figured to create a new thread.

I'm looking for a no fee GPS tracker for my bicycle. I live in NYC and I use my bike to commute to work as well as other various tasks. I've had two bikes stolen because of cheap locks but now I have pin locks as well as a top of the line U-Lock on my new bike. It's pretty secure however I need some piece of mind with a no fee GPS tracker for my bike. I love my bike and I don't want it to get stolen.

I've heard of Helios Bars. It seems pretty cool and it has no monthly fees but I wasn't looking to replace my handle bars. I like them how they already are. Does anyone else have any thoughts about Helios Bars or any other no fee GPS tracker that they heard of or are currently using?

even if you had a GPS tracker I doubt it would help you get your bike back. yove already invested in the right places with good locks, use them appropriately and you should be fine.

A smart thief will remove the battery or otherwise disable. Then what do you do? Also, what does this mean?

I think it would just result in you losing a GPS tracker as well.

As I understand it, the SIM card is needed to "ping" the bike. You send a text via SMS to your bike and it will send a reply back to you. Without that SIM card (or adequate cell signals), it's useless as a tracking device.

Here's one concept... But GPS tracker viability will depend on market uptake. Perhaps NYC is dense enough that it will be useful quickly. But of course there's still the issue of smart thieves learning to find and remove the device. Also, I don't know whether if you hid it, say, inside the seat tube, whether it would still be able to broadcast.
