I took my wife's bike since she is picking me up in the car and we are going away for the weekend, and car-bike-rack logistics made it easiest that i ride hers to work. BUT...it wasnt enjoyable: tire going flat, no fenders (it was raining), i was late, no frame pump, no shraeder adapter. I tried cutting off the tip of a presta cap to use as an adapter at a gas station. Cutting it was very difficult with one working hand, and the plastic cap split. I just rode on the soft tire the rest of the way = late.

Saw a beautiful sunrise on my ride in this morning, temperature low to mid 50s, birds chirping...I don't even recall a morning like this back in the spring. I hope tomorrow is just as nice for my first ever 100 mile ride.

Morning commute was nice and chilly at 35 F. Almost was in a head on collision with a bike ninja who was thought since he was in AK he could ride up the wrong side of the MUP like a salmon. I had just turned off my headlight because I saw the another rider coming with his lights on. Come on dude at least put on a high vis vest so the rest of us have a chance to see you.

Just had my first commute home on my new and first folding bike. One rail to the shop, a ride, a bus, more rail ended with another bike ride. I would have liked to have rode, instead of the one bus part, but I definitely was not up to a 1.5 hour bike ride and I didn't have everything I needed to face the Dumbarton Bridge risks. So far, I'm glad I have a functioning bike again.
Considering my normal commute will be much simpler and involve more riding and the last stretch on the bike is my normal commute, it was encouraging. The engine, aka me, will get better. I'll get better at folding and unfolding my bike, especially the folding part needs work. I finally got to feel how bad the roads are around here. I was happy to see what were either new dotted lines on the recently paved road, including a funky precursor to the cycle image. Was happy when I saw no bus, to just hop on the bike and go. Wanted to kick myself for not having bought just any ole light, for safety. Or had bought the kind of expensive, but very cool lights, when I was browsing the other day. Used the 2nd velcro to dangle my one LED, but not right. If I'd had ducktape, I'd have had two makeshift lights pointed the right ways, oh well.
My not really being a driver, in spite of my license, resulted in being in right hand turn lanes, a couple times, when I needed to not be, since I was going forward. I don't want to do that again.
Overall a positive experience, even if it wasn't the best of days for me to get up to all that for a few other reasons. When I was actually doing it, the scariness of the big bad road, wasn't really scary, which worries me. I don't want to be "lucky". I didn't have any close calls and the longer that goes on the better.
I got to do something about my bag, though. My maxpedition bag kept shifting more to my side, instead of the right spot on my back. I really don't like the extra strap to secure it; it isn't very friendly to ladies. I should be able to secure it to my rack, while I work out road map for necessities, accessories and upgrades. I've never had a rack before, so that'll be an adjustment.
It all went so fast, it didn't feel like my adventures of the evening were 4.5 hours of my day.

Staying at home today, but my commute yesterday morning was lovely. Chilly but not too cold, and a little misty. Visibility on the ground was fine fine, but tall buildings in the distance disappeared into the fog layer and it was beautiful.

I left the bike at my parents house last winter, and then it was stuck there for much of the spring because their shed door was frozen shut (because Michigan). Then I came down with mono in June and felt ****ty for a lot of the summer, and didn't ride much. But I've been getting back in shape these last two months, and back into bike commuting. My commute's only 2.5 miles, but a big potion of it is up hill on the way home. Road 4 days last week, pushing myself harder up the hill, and I'm definitely stronger than I was a month ago. Hoping to get quite a few biking days out of October, and maybe some of November. But I'm a wimp about cold, so we'll see.

I'm new to commuting to work. Or really returning to it I guess, I used to ride to and from work a lot before marriage and kids and everything. Anyway, I set a goal to drop the car till the snow falls here, and have been doing great with it. Looking forward to my commute. Loving the colors, views, sounds and smells on my ride in. Taking a long, long route home to relax and enjoy. Loving my new road bike, so much more comfortable for me. Only missed 3 days riding so far in September, found this forum and been reading everyone's posts, keeps me driven thanks. Here's the thing, I went out tonight to get my bike chain cleaned and check everything over like I do every Sunday and discovered I have like 3 broken spokes. I am so bummed. I had a bit of a wobble Thursday night and it got worse Friday night coming home but I just thought some spokes were loose. I can wrench on a bike ok but rims have always been my nemesis. I have a backup to ride in tomorrow. It's a bike I like but it's not comfortable for a long ride and I was so looking forward to the long run home. Well just wanted to rant. 1st world problems eh, I guess I should be happy I got a backup. Later

Back on the bike again. Had to take last Friday off.. just too darn tired! I didn't know that the new iPhone was tracking my steps but did 12-13k steps 3 times last week! Would like to ride 4 days a week at least but find it catches up with me. Was a cool morning and uneventful.

It was a very nice commute to work this am, temp at 58f degrees when I left the house with dark skies. A very nice way to start my day!

Cooler than I thought, my indoor/outdoor thermometer read 10C/50F but it turned out that it was closer to 8C/47F, no wonder I was both sweaty and nipply at the same time! I risked riding with the same battery in my front light as I had for the previous 3 days and it turned out that I was ok, the switch only started to glow red (low battery) just as I arrived work, about 20min longer than I really needed it. I had a spare battery that I switched in when I put my bike in the bike cage this morning.

Forecast is for rain this afternoon.

Very comfortable temp today. A light rain was coming down as I got closer to work. Co-workers were trying to get their umbrellas open while getting out of the car or scurrying to the door as I lock my bike up in no hurry at all

I have a tendency to brake spokes, I fitted rear rack on a bike not suppose to have one and I have a fat as* so that's why. The best solution I found is to get the tools and learn how to replace spokes and I bought a spare Wheel, in case I don't have time to replace the broken spoke right away.

Thanks, never thought of buying a second rear, sometimes the simplest things elude me. I'm gonna check a few of the bike salvage stores and see. As for learning, I tried to take a wobble out of an old mountian bike rim and made it unrideable! I should try again tho. Ill giver a go on this one I guess. Thanks again.

Strava gave me one gold medal today, no others at all. Meanwhile the old green Schwinn still feels great. It's a keeper. I'm thinking of making it a 6-speed to keep the present gear sequence but also have one lower.

14 17 20 24 28
14 17 20 24 28 32

33 is actually closer to the ratio sequence but who ever heard of a 33 freewheel cog? PastorBob, maybe. Then again, if I have a lower gear will I keep making PR's?

I've been scouting mountain bike trails around my house by foot and I'm eager to get that bike back together as a mountain bike and try them. I think it might be possible to make it from my neighborhood to the Hazel bridge entirely by trail, but it might be beyond my riding ability.

Absolutely awesome! Michigan has had for the past week a run of the most lovely weather you could have anywhere. Mid 70s, sun and almost no wind. Riding to the Doctors for a colostomy would be a delight. I stretched out my 10mi round trip to the post office this morning to 30. The colors are starting to turn, it just keeps getting better!

I had a nice ride this morning, the wind was pretty stiff but I was already hurting. My legs are sore I think I need a few more days off, I was going pretty hard the previous several weeks and I think I need to tone it down. But it is so pleasureful to ride I can not bring myself to drive.

It started to rain on the second half of the commute and there are a few busier sections I have to negotiate when I leave later and school is in session.

I've got the opposite issue; I've only ridden like 5 days in the last 3 months; was gone all of July & August, rode the 5 days in early September, but then have been in the Yukon since then.

First ride back this morning though, felt good! Gotta burn off the 7 lbs I gained up in camp... damn the bakers!

It's hard to make a Wheel true but replacing a broken spoke on a Wheel that was previously true is not very hard as you know which spoke to tight to make it true...

Welcome back.

My month of September has been somewhat gluttonous which has not helped; too many birthdays beers and snacks. I somehow put on 4 pounds with all my riding.

It must be nice to be back.

Off of work last week, so no commutes. Badly sprained my wrist at hockey yesterday, so probably no commutes this week either.

Overcast and a little sluggish ride this morning after my "hard" 50 miler yesterday (was supposed to be a 100 miler but stuff got in the way). This is my last day of a simple 5 mile commute as tomorrow we're moving from our current location to a larger one across town, I'll probably still commute after the move but it'll be 15 mile R/T rather than 10, and I'll be closer to the grocery store/bank for last minute errands after work.

my riding streak ended but

i rode from wednesday through til friday of last week. Friday's ride was just a quick trip to a friends house. 10 days in a row. My legs must have been tired because they sure feel rested and ready to ride. I chose to drive since it is rainy all day and I have been fighting a sore throat/ cold.

My riding ceased this weekend also because it was my 15 year reunion from college. All my classmates were like you have lost so much weight is that from biking ?! It was awesome experience to show up at reunion 35-40lbs less than I when I graduated.

hoping to get back to riding wednesday. Tuesday obligations mean I can not commute on that day during the school year.

i miss my bike
