As it is, my basic understanding of my rights as a cyclist in New York City is as follows: people are allowed and indeed encouraged to run me over while I'm riding my bike, so I don't have any "rights" per se. However, if I'm lucky enough not to die and the driver doesn't flee the scene there is a small chance I might be able to get some money out of it. -bikesnobnyc

I also think Montreal will win, too bad for Bruins :(

No work today! But I dropped the boy off at daycare and then I passed an electric scooter!

Since I left the NE I have not followed hockey, but the Habs would be a team I could support.

The commute in this morning was a nice uneventful ride with the temp at 45f degrees.

dcb23 05-02-14 05:44 AM

Back on the bike...so nice after three days of training sessions for work. 58F/14C, partly cloudy skies but no rain.

Had a fitful night of "sleep" with my idiot downstairs neighbor's music up way too loud, again....until 02:30. Also-it's spring shpooting season here on the Hill in DC "pop!, pop pop!, pop pop pop!" at around 2a.m.

The fate of the Habs is near and dear to our office, one of our co-workers is the cousin to PK Suban's father, and since PK scored both the first and last goals for the Habs last night, well, that's been the conversation over by the water cooler this morning.

Cool ride in this morning, 3C/37F, a felt cooler because my gloves got wet taking out the wet garbage bags to the side of the road so it took a while for my hands to warm up. The roads were essentially dry but it is going to rain this afternoon, this time, however, I'm prepared.

Have a great weekend everyone!

47 degrees and dry ... first commute of the week due to all the rain and cold temps.

Completely uneventful ride. Already looking forward to the ride home tonight.

First nice day of weather this work week, with sunny skies and a little nip in the air. Forecast called for clouds until late afternoon, but they were wrong about that like everything else lately. It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend weatherwise, so hopefully I'll make up some of the mileage I missed this week due to storms.

I had an on & off tailwind yesterday making for some faster miles. But a longer than normal wait at a stop sign and an extra stop for a delivery truck blocking half the lane resulted in the same time overall riding time as usual.

This morning I stopped for a picture of a pollen covered pond that I pass everyday. For some reason after that stop I felt all strong and muscled up a hill in the big ring that I normally go into a lower gear for.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=377813

What a beautiful day! A little cool but finally the trees are green and it really feels like spring. For the second time in 2 weeks, had to ride on the C&O towpath to avoid tree work/clean up on the Capital Crescent Trail. I will definitely need to clean my chain tonight, due to all the mud on the towpath. My shifter seems a bit off too. I've never worked on one before so perhaps it is time I learned something new.

spivonious 05-02-14 08:40 AM

Fantastic weather today. Upper 50s coming in and sun shining. Even a little tailwind to make me feel a bit stronger.

groovestew 05-02-14 09:16 AM

Cool and breezy this morning, not supposed to be much better this afternoon.

Nice to see the good guys won last night.

timvan_78 05-02-14 09:48 AM

Sunny and 16degC (61F) awesome.
Commuter racing is full-on. This morning I drafted a Stromer (electric bike) for a bit.
Yesterday they rerouted part of CVG path at Still Creek. The temporary reroute is mushy deep uncompacted gravel. They meant well (rerouting the bike path) but execution leaves a bit to be desired.

joeyduck 05-02-14 10:30 AM

This was a nice morning in Van for a ride. I took it easy and enjoyed the sights. I only counted 20 other bikes out today, lower than I anticipated.

bconneraz 05-02-14 02:22 PM

It's been hot here in So Cal; while the ride home will be warm and in the 90's, the ride in was perfect.

Third day this week! I think that's a first for me this year, though 2 or 3 is my target, with one day of running if I ride two, and a day of weight lifting. I've been riding pretty slowly so I feel fine.

Slowly doesn't mean easy, as I don't know an easy way up my hills. That's OK, they're fun on the way down!

It's still dark when I leave in the morning but not for long. Nice weather here this week.

caloso 05-02-14 06:04 PM

Breezy and warm.

GriddleCakes 05-03-14 01:55 AM

Sunny all week, mostly mid 50s coming home, except today when it hit 68°. **** yeah!

Also, summer tires. So quiet, so smooth. **** yeah!

Less enthusiastically, in the process of mounting said summer tires the other night, I had two brand new tube blow up in my face. I actually donned ear protection before I inflated the third tube, just in case. Then, about 20 minutes after I got home today, another brand new tube blew, one that I had ridden to work and back on. I checked both the tire and the rim for burrs, shards, and whatnot, and found no obvious culprits. I bought the tubes at REI, so I hope to able to return them, but I'm wary of exchanging them for more tubes of the REI brand, since Novara tubes are all that they carry, and it kinda seems like said tubes suck. Anyone else ever run into a bad batch of tubes?

dcb23 05-05-14 05:10 AM

47F / 8C and one of those omni-directional headwinds.

essiemyra 05-05-14 05:16 AM

The commute in was a pleasant uneventful ride in this am. The temp was at 51f degrees when I left the house and mostly clear blue sky. A

Near the end of my ride in I pass a Starbucks. Whenever I approach its entrance I watch for cars coming out because I have found they often ignore the stop sign they have. This morning I saw one approaching the stop sign rapidly. I think we can all recognize that car that looks to be in a hurry and can't be bothered with stopping. I quickly realized that this was one of those cars and hit my brakes.

The car barely slowed and turned left in front of me. Not until the turn was halfway complete did the driver actually look at me. I held my hands out and gave her a "WTF?" expression. I read her lips to be saying, "Oh, sorry."

I'm pretty sure I would have been squashed had I not slowed. I guess because I saw it coming - and expect it at that intersection - I wasn't really upset or anything. But it does make me want to recommend that a Police car go and sit there between 7:30 & 8:30 weekdays.

wphamilton 05-05-14 06:48 AM

It's easier to get up early these days after that rough winter, anticipating the ride in. I felt a little sluggish this morning probably because of some threshold intervals I did yesterday, a good excuse to take it easy.

I'm still 100% on bike commutes this year - I guess I've just found the groove!

I have, but I suspect it was more of a bad batch of installations (me) than the tubes. Once I feel snakebit on something it seems like mistakes are more frequent. Whichever it was I switched tubes, and was more careful, problem solved.

jrickards 05-05-14 06:54 AM

Cool start to the day with a 0C/32F ride in but beautiful and sunny and I was sweating by the time I arrived. Forecast for the week is for highs of 12-16C/54-61F so I won't be wearing the tights home and I'll have to bring a lighter top too.

cehowardGS 05-05-14 07:10 AM

Oh boy, I haven't commuted on two wheels for the last 6 weeks. Reason, I had a bad cold, then I had personal problems, along with my motorcycle in the shop. I commute on two wheels 90% of the time. Motorcycle and bicycle. Okay, this morning my two choices are GSX R1000 or Cannondale Black Lightning. Both are slick and fast.. The Cannondale was the choice.. Just turning light, wanted to depart while it was dark at 5:45am, but I had to go over checklist to make sure I had everything, and the see if the Black Lightning was okay.. I leave at 6:am Every nice and smooth. The Cannondale has DT shifter, and they shift smooth as silk..First 5 miles, and a locked grin.. ;)

Commute is only 9 miles one way... ;)

ill.clyde 05-05-14 07:29 AM

Cold, 41 degrees, headwind out of the north and I'm still recovering from the weekend (birthday party for friends and I was tasked with smoking a pork shoulder, which was done overnight, sleeping about two hours at a time). Walking out to the garage this morning, feeling the cold, I just about bailed on riding ...but didn't.

arsprod 05-05-14 07:44 AM

A pleasant 47F with moderate cross wind. Managed to beat the rain. Yesterday I rode in a memorial ride for a young guy who was killed riding his bike to work. The turnout was great and all the local news stations led with the story. Here's one, http://www.theindychannel.com/news/l...icycle-to-work. There's nothing good that comes from a tragedy like this but I hope a little bit of press raises some awareness. Be careful out there!
