Woke up 20 min earlier this morning to take a longer beach bike path to the LA river path which is an extra few miles each way to/from work. Definitely worth the extra miles and waking up earlier!

todays commute was unexpected. I was out on my morning ride before work, and got a call that our surprise annual audit was happening. I figured it was faster to simply ride to work rather than ride the 10 miles home, shower, and then drive in. Thankfully I have clothes at work. So what was going to be 3 rides in this week just turned into 4. :)

Cool yesterday, wet and cool today. Both days found me with a rear flat tire at the end of my shift. Yesterday I swung by the shop to purchase a tube (since I had destroyed my spare in a previous inflation debacle that I now believe was entirely my fault) and borrow their floor pump. Today, since it was obviously a slow leak, I used the frame pump to get home, then did what I should've done yesterday, and thoroughly inspected the tire. Sure enough, a 1.5 cm long sliver of metal had just barely made its way through the tire. Nothing like inflating a tire in the rain to remind you to be a little more exacting in your bike mainenance.

Beautiful Spring rides continue...lots and lots of runners out. 52F 11 C

Another lovely commute to work today, the sun was shining bright with no clouds and the temp was 42f degrees when I left the house. I get to leave the house later since our move. I also do not have to be up before 5:30 to leave.

Normal ride home last night.

Surprised to see it overcast this morning, but no rain in the forecast. Perhaps it will be a bit cooler with a little less sunshine.

I'm thinking I may start adding some miles to the ride home every now and then. I have a 12 mile ride now. I'm sure I can find a loop or alternate route to increase that some on these longer days.

My bike actually came originally with what I suspect to be a bad run of tubes. Both original tubes popped spontaneously (and loudly!) with the bike just sitting, within a few weeks of each other. Both of them failed right at the base of the valve stem. First time I had the wheels off in the garage and one popped with it just sitting there. Second time happened with my bike sitting near my desk in the office. That definitely caused a lot of head turning and running to see what happened haha.

A couple years ago I had the stems pull out from 3 tubes in a row. The reason I remember is because after the 2nd one failed the guy from the lbs insisted the problem was me and he put in the 3rd... which summarily failed.

Nice ride this morning - upper 50's, sunny, very little wind, and a commuting friend caught up with me so we rode most of the way together.

My commute times are running consistently about 5 minutes faster this week since I swapped to lighter, narrower tires on my bikes. The weather has helped as well because it's been warmer and less windy with no rain so far this week.

No commute today ... my daughter's first softball game is tonight, so it's an hour+ to get there after work tonight.

Was odd getting in my car this morning ... I haven't driven it since Sunday I believe.

I got fed up with having to wear tights in the morning, considering what month we're in so I decided to scrap the tights and wear shorts (but still a long-sleeved, thick jersey on top). I had second thoughts this morning when I got up, it was 0C/32F, but, as it has been every morning this week, it was bright and sunny. However, I was fine and, since I had gotten up earlier this morning (on the road by 6:45), I was able to take the longer route, 25km/15mi, in to work and thoroughly enjoyed it. Right now, 9:15, it is 8C/46F with a forecasted high of sunny and 14C/57F this afternoon: I might be able to scrap the thick jersey this afternoon and just go with the regular long-sleeved I was wearing underneath.

This was a new one for me going home on the Greenway (of approximately 2,000 commutes on that paved trail). I've seen cops there before, sometimes even in patrol cars and usually tearing along with an emergency vehicle, and one time chasing me  (but that's another story) but this is the first time I got stuck behind a patrol car going slow for miles - on the MUP! There wasn't really a good chance to pass and that seemed like it would be awkward anyway since he was getting up to the speed limit from time to time.

It wasn't anything serious. He finally pulled up to a middle-aged blond standing beside her bicycle and she was nervous but not at all agitated, and he cracked a lame joke about how far it was to put her at ease. I was burning with curiosity of course but I'll never know because I couldn't think of a smooth way to insinuate myself into the situation. Maybe I could have just said "Hey Officer what's happening?"

(nb, for you unfortunate Northern folks it was about 90°, summer clothes in the morning, perfect conditions. :) )

I'm dreaming of a windless day, I can't remember when was the last one.

Tomorrow I'll have to take the car because I have a medical appointement at 15h15 in Granby, which is 40 kms from my work place. No choice really.

Big game last night, Habs are leading the serie 2-1 WOUHOU!!!!

Yeah!! I was only able to watch the last 12min of the 3rd and it was rather nerve racking.

groovestew 05-07-14 10:10 AM

Just below freezing when I set out this morning, but low winds so it was an okay ride. Still finding my legs on the hills.

MEversbergII 05-07-14 10:20 AM

Went in an hour late today because I jacked my alarm. Gorgeous out.

Knee and arm warmers are perfect for spring days with cold/cool mornings and warm afternoons.

RaleighSport 05-07-14 11:39 AM

Excellent! Despite the forecasted headwinds both ways.. there was virtually none. Never topped 55 degrees on either leg, so I didn't even have to stow my jacket! Oh and I got to pass a couple of roadies that seemed to be in disbelief a guy in slacks had passed them.. :D

ascherer 05-07-14 07:31 PM

I hit very few red lights on my AM run so it was fast even though I wasn't rushing. PM return was weird, very intense drivers, traffic jams. Uneventful, though. Rain for tomorrow and Friday so it's subway for me...I'm only so dedicated.

dcb23 05-08-14 05:07 AM

The deep green spring mornings continue. 57F 14 C....gotta savor these days before summer hits.

essiemyra 05-08-14 05:18 AM

The commute was nice with the temp at 41f degrees and clear blue skies this am. Only a quarter mile into the ride I realized why my bag looked so empty. I had forgot my towel, so back home I went to get it. Thank-goodness it was so close when I realized my error.

tarwheel 05-08-14 06:10 AM

The weather is finally heating up here, with our first 90+ day expected today. Fortunately I am leaving work early and should avoid the worst of the heat. The humidity is also up, and I was drenched when I got to work this morning, despite dressing very lightly.

jrickards 05-08-14 06:43 AM

Beautiful mild morning, 6C/43F, sunny with a slight headwind breeze which was good to keep me cooler: I decided to incorporate HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) into my ride (30sec sprint, 90sec spin) so the cooling breeze was appreciated. Calling for a high of 16C today but showers tonight and possible thundershowers tomorrow morning.

arsprod 05-08-14 06:59 AM

65F and my first morning ride in shorts!

spivonious 05-08-14 07:09 AM

Upper 50s, a bit humid.

4th day in a row of commutes. If the weather holds up for tomorrow, it will be my first full week since last Fall.
