It's bike to work day, but I'm going to take the train! Oh, the irony. They're predicting another Biblical downpour tonight. I took bike share to work this morning (and miracle of miracles, there were bikes available), so the day isn't complete wash. But tonight, it's the subway for me going uptown, and then home again. It'll be my first time on the subway in probably close to two months. I'll only stand on principle so far. I might ride the short 3 miles if I were going straight home, but there's no point getting drenched riding to the bunch of miles to the party tonight.

woke up to some beautiful weather here in FL this morning. Temps were perfect. I've been a sweaty mess for the past month, so this cool front was a welcome relief. Couldn't have asked for a better bike to work day

It was a beautiful morning this morning. I had a nice ride, though I start (within my first 500 m) going up a small (one-two blocks) but rather steep hill (silly Vancouver, let's put bike lanes up the steepest and only hill in the area). I usually pump up it in my big ring, this morning I went to my middle ring spun a bit faster up. But the things it did to my legs for the rest of the ride were horrible. I was so pumped and tired. Though I am not sure if it is the 30+ km round trip with half distance being with my son in his seat for the whole week.

The receptionist at work told me the boss is thinking of having us park our bikes somewhere else, out of sight. I do not like that idea, nor did the receptionist. I have gotten a co-worker to start riding in the last two weeks though! So three of us cycle to work, yeah!

I rode into work today for the first time this year. I started a new job and dont know the roads of the interstate that well so havent gone through the trouble to make it down on the bike. But today I had no excuse. Friday is casual day, the weather was perfect. So I did it. 12 miles in at 50F did it in about 53 mins. On the way home I was feeling good and put in an extra 6 miles and some hills.

It was a Goldilocks day for riding... I'm struggling to combat route boredom however. Same route for 6 years - maybe it's time to move.

nice commute today. chatted with a couple of folks at the Olympia Woodland trail head on the way in. 17 miles round trip with a lunch ride. got a wabikes.org sticker. heading home, a Triplets of Belleville Champion Souza looking guy merged directly in front of me on the MUP, kept looking back over his shoulder for 3 miles, and kept finding me with him until I got to my exit. I may be a Fred some days, but I seem to move along ok. might name my bike Fast Freddy. or Felony Fred in red lettering for the bike thieves. probably Champion had already ridden an imperial century and was just cooling down on the cruise home. 23rd consecutive commuting day, and planning to just keep going.

Gorgeous weather all week! Still low to mid 30s in the morning, mid 60s to low 70s coming home, with blazing sunshine every day, except for some wicked thick fog over west Anch Monday through Wednesday mornings.

Came as close as I ever have to hitting a moose yesterday morning. Stupid beast was crossing the MUP just after the hill crest past the Goose Lake overpass, which I had just powered over. I went from pedaling hard, to a full on e-brake that stopped me about a wheel length from the ungulate in question, to backing up so fast that I drew blood on both shins as the pedals came around to hit one, then the other. I had no idea that I could walk a bike so quickly backwards and uphill! Luckily, the moose just started a bit at my brake squeal, eyed me for a moment, then slowly finished crossing. Normally I wouldn't berate other trail users for reckless or stupid behavior, but I gave mister moose a piece of my mind about his choice of crossing locations and being more aware of blind spots in the trail. He responded with typical moosey disdain, so I told him that I hoped he gets eaten by the Elmendorf Base wolf pack, then continued on to work.

Speaking of wildlife, today was National Bike to Work day, and I spotted no fewer than four adult bike salmon riding around downtown. I yelled at one, "you're no Alec Baldwin", and was met with a quizzical look and a wobble further into the traffic lane, which was thankfully empty at that moment.

HaHa moosey disdain. That is a great way to describe their demeanor.

But wow, that would be scary I am not surprised you can go backwards uphill so fast when face to mid leg on moose.

I had a nice commute, there is a storm front on its was from the south so I had a strong southern wind. A fellow and I tooled along at about 32 km/h for a while together. It was nice to not get the head wind.

I do have to wonder what other people thought of me today. I had a 40 L poly drum bungeed to the back of the bike.

Got to work the weekend, man!

Less trains, so I rode to the next railway station ... longer bike ride, approx 30 minutes.
And then my 20 minute train ride changed into a 2 hour ride... technical problems. Could have been at work a lot faster by bike than by train

First ride in on the new Gatorskins. Definitely felt a lot faster while coasting and faster starting up. I went from the stock Trek H2 32mm to Conti Gatorskin 28mm. Hopefully no more flats for a while! The rear Trek was worn flat after 2500 miles.

I did not see a moose on my ride today, so nothing nearly as exciting to report as GriddleCakes.

Cool enough this morning that I wore a long sleeve shirt. Several coworkers were late to work due to an accident on the interstate. Some took alternate routes based on backed up traffic. I enjoy not having to worry about that on my route.

I rode a metric century on Saturday so i was feeling the ride a little more today. I averaged 17.2 on the metric century and felt good. I rode today 48 degrees and definitely felt it more.

I found a bridge/ road blocked off and jumped on the sidewalk and rode across. The police officer on the other side did not say anything to me so i figure i was okay. I hopped off the curb and kept going.

I then rode over something on the road and my tire instantly flatted.

I called my wife and while waiting, i said let me see if I can fix it. I then realized i did not have tire levers. I put the tire back on and pushed to the top of the hill and figured i would wait until my wife came with pump/ levers and rack if i could not get it fixed. I saw another bicyclist and asked if he had levers. He did and i replaced my tube by the time my wife got there. I used my floor pump to finish pumping it up and rode the rest of the way to work.

what an adventure.... I was only 30 minutes late too.

My commute was great this morning! Sunshine, low 70's, and just a light tailwind, and best of all the traffic lights were in my favor the whole way there. Oh, and there were a ton of friendly drivers this morning and a few other cyclists to pace with. Left me with a warm fuzzy feeling on a Monday.

Low 40s this morning, so for the first time this year I wore shorts to work. A little nippy, but adversity is good for the soul. Serious headwinds downtown, 35 mph gusts all day.

Had a unique experience at work today: a customer asked if I'd be willing to sell my bike. I keep it parked right out front of the restaurant, which is glass fronted, so that my co-workers can see it and, theoretically, tell me is someone if messing with it; it's also in full sight of the customers. I've been sucked into conversations with customers before about my bikes, but never had someone wanting to buy one off of me.

I didn't get to talk to the guy personally (it was lunch rush and I was slammed), but he asked his server if she thought I'd sell, and she, knowing me pretty well, was skeptical of the idea. She said that she was pretty sure that I'd built the bike, and the dude's dining companion said "why don't you just build the same bike" (which was my initial response when the server told me all of this), and the dude responded that he wanted "that bike" and was willing to "go ridiculously high" on the purchase price, and left his phone number.

I love my bikes, and had never considered selling any of them. I had planned to ride this bike until it broke, because after over a decade of bike commuting, I've got a really good idea of what I want out of a bike, and this one meets all of my criteria, plus is a fun, smooth, good looking ride. But if this guy is willing to go "ridiculously high" on the price, depending on how high "ridiculously high" is, I might be able to recomp the time spend building and tuning the bike, the emotional investment that I have in the bike, and end up with plenty of money to buy an equal replacement and then some.

On the other hand, I like the bike, I worked hard to earn the money to buy every piece of the that bike, spent my own time putting it together and dialing it in, and I really enjoy riding it. I kind of resent the idea of some money'd up d-bag (which I kind of am myself, but I grew up poor and those attitudes stay with you) taking this thing that I made for me and love, in exchange for a stack of cash. I have a job, and it isn't building bikes. Tinkering with bikes is my hobby, and riding them a passion, and while I greatly encourage everyone to give these amazing machines a try, I do think that you need to go get your own. This bike is mine.

I see moose all the time, they're ubiquitous in Alaska, even in Anchorage. I just rarely/never see them so close.

The ride to work was a pleasant one this morning with a temp of 49f degrees and the smell of lilacs in the air. I would prefer riding to working today. Oh well I will ride a longer ride home.

Foolish move on my part this morning...I scooted through a red on a side street and did not see a pickup coming because of a parked dump truck. No harm no foul but lesson learned--stay put.

Motivated by the commuting vs recreational riding thread yesterday (and by the excellent temperatures) I took a long route home yesterday. Doubled my normal 12 mile route to get 25+. I found a couple of ugly climbs, but I suppose they were good for me. I also found a couple of nice sections for some good spinning.

Normal enough ride in this morning.

Chilly morning again, but this is my kind of weather. Cool enough to keep you from sweating real bad, and pleasantly warm in the afternoon. My legs were fried yesterday from weekend rides, but felt much better today.

Continuing the process of adapting my bikes for summer riding, removing fenders from my favorite distance-riding bike and installing narrower tires. I swapped the fenders over to one of my cross bikes, which will now become my rain bike.
